Overview

Teostra looking menacing in the lava caverns.

Teostra is an extremely aggressive monster showing dominance to anything that enters his domain. From basic attacks like charges, bites, and tail swipes to extraordinary attacks like spewing flames out of his mouth similar to a flamethrower whilst moving towards you.

On top of all that, he’s able to gather mass quantities of explosive powder which he gathers from his own scales which can inflict Fireblight. Finally, he can cause an explosion around himself, most commonly known as “Supernova”. Any hunters who have the bravado to fight him, best come equipped with upgraded armor, nulberries, and a death wish.

Strategy

As Teostra employs a lot of attacks that can do fireblight, so it makes sense to get some resistance to it, either from your armor or from the Dangos you eat before the hunt. For your weapon, make sure it has the Water element on it, as that is what he’s weakest too, failing that, blast works relatively well here. Before going in to the hunt, make sure you’ve got max nulberries to help with the fireblight, max potions/megapotions, and some flash bombs to aid you with some emergency healing if needed.

Teostra is a fast-paced, aggressive monster, that hits hard, and that only gets worse with how enraged he is, because he starts chaining separate attacks in to one, right after each other. As a ranged character, most of his attacks can be dodged by walking to the side, or backing up when you see the attack, or with the dive bomb, rolling towards him, or to the side. As a melee character, be always ready to get as far away from him as possible, as he can have some devastating attacks up close. Most of Teostra’s attacks will leave behind a circular, powdery orb of fireblight which explodes shortly after being placed on the floor, these only have a small radius and are easy to avoid for the most part.

For all his flashy attacks, you’ll be taking most of your damage from his charges or dive bombs, or his flame breath attacks if you’re careless. It’s best not to overcommit with your attacks, so you’re always ready to get away from him in a moments notice, or get your shield up in time if you play Lance/Gunlance or any other weapon which can block. Finally, his head is his weakness, and most of your attacks should be focused there, or his wings and forelegs being the next parts to aim for, if you can’t get near to it. The hardest part of this hunt is knowing what attack is coming next because most of them have similar tells before he does them, if you do get hit, make sure to heal to full to avoid carting.
