Status Effects in One Piece Odyssey

In One Piece Odyssey, you’ll battle various creatures throughout your travels, and some of these have attacks that can leave nasty status effects on your entourage. There are over 10 status effects in the game, and it can be difficult to find out what each of them does. Below you’ll find out what each status effect has on your party.

You can find your resistances to specific status effects in the Crew screen.

Status Effect Types

Here, we’ll split the Status Effects into three different categories. This will be Damage over Time (DoT), Stuns, and Confusion. These aren’t separated in the game, but they all have similar effects such as Burn, and Poison both dealing damage over a period of time or turns in this case. The same can be said for the mind-control effects as Confusion, and Charm will cause the enemies to attack each other.

All Status Effects in One Piece Odyssey

This will show you a list of all the Status Effects, and what they do at a glance. A lot of these effects are the same, but you’ll be using different skills depending on what the enemy is weak to due to their resistance. The same goes for your party too, some will be more resistant to a specific type of Status Effect. We’ll go into further detail on individual Status Effects further below.

What does Burn do in One Piece Odyssey?

Burn is a damage-over-time effect that will deal fire damage after the affected targets turn while inflicting DEF (defense) down. This usually lasts 2–3 turns. This is particularly dangerous, as it means that the character will take damage at the end of their move while it lasts, and also make them more open to taking damage due to the lowered defense.

Burn attacks typically come from moves that have the fire elemental attached to it. "Franky" iconFranky, and "Usopp" iconUsopp are both characters with that status effect in their skills. Meanwhile, some enemies in the desert, such as the "Sandora Dragon" iconSandora Dragon enemies, "Fire Colossus" iconFire Colossus, and more. The chance of being burned relates to the character’s Guts, and also their Burn resistance. and can be cured by using "Chopper" iconChopper’s Cure skill or using an item. Most effective against Beast and Plant-type enemies.

If an ally is affected with the burn status, then you can use Chopper’s Cure skill, or use items like "Burn Brew" iconBurn Brew to remove it.

What does Bleed do in One Piece Odyssey?

Bleed, similar to Burn, will damage enemies over a few turns while also inflicting ATK (Attack) down. This will also last 2–3 turns. Whenever an enemy completes their turn with a bleed status applied, they will take damage, depending on attributes like the strength of the bleed applier, and the character defense.

Bleeds are commonly associated with bladed weapons. Any character that uses a sword, or some other metallic melee weapon can inflict bleeds on their skills, or using their basic attacks. Common examples of enemies that make you bleed are "Sailor" iconSailor, "Enies Lobby Agent" iconEnies Lobby Agent, "Commodore Guard" iconCommodore Guard, "Baroque Works Millions" iconBaroque Works Millions, and many others.

In term’s of the player’s party, "Zoro" iconZoro’s primary attack, and all of his battle skills can apply bleeds to the a target. Note, bleeds are not always guaranteed to apply, but typically will do against humanoid enemy types.

Bleed, like most other status effects, can be cured through Chopper’s Cure skill. In addition, Bleed. If you don’t have access to Chopper’s skills, then you can consume a "Small Drumstick" iconSmall Drumstick, which restores 1,500 HP, and removes bleeding status effect from an ally. You may also use a "Bandage Brew" iconBandage Brew, which removes bleeding.

What does Poison do in One Piece Odyssey?

Once again, Poison is a damage-over-time effect much like Burn, and Bleed. Also lasting approximately 2–3 turns. Players will take damage based on the users strength, the afflicted’s defense. Some character’s are more likely to be hit with poison status effect than others thanks to each character having a Poison resistance OF 0, with "Luffy" iconLuffy having 100.

The creatures you’re more likely to see afflict the poison status effect are plant or animal themed enemies. For example, the Black Brother scorpion in the Great Sandy Desert and its cave are likely candidates, among others. However, the player party has no innate skill that can poison enemies.

To cure the Poison status effect, Chopper’s Care skill is able to remove debuff and status effect from ally players. If you do not have access to Chopper, then items like "Antidote Brew" iconAntidote Brew, and "Scorpion and Clam Soup" iconScorpion and Clam Soup can remove poison from an ally.

What does Freeze do in One Piece Odyssey?

A freeze will temporarily root the enemy in place leaving them unable to move or act for a few turns. It is one of the various form of turn skipping moves that will keep a character out of action until it expires is removed.

Typically, frost themed spells are used by enemies in the Ice Block Ruins, which is accessible in Chapter 5. The enemies you encounter with these sort of effects include examples like the Wild "Ice Penguin" iconIce Penguin, and other chilly examples. Note, that ally player party characters have a frost resistance check called freeze. All characters in the Straw Hat "Pirate" iconPirates gang have between -20 to -30 base resistance to Freeze, which makes everyone except Chopper (+100 resistance to Freeze) likely to freeze if hit with freeze effect skills and attacks.

To remove Freeze, you may once again use Chopper’s aid skill to remove it from a party member. There are also items, such as the "Insulator Brew" iconInsulator Brew, which removes numbing effects that Freeze gives.

What does Sleep do in One Piece Odyssey?

Sleep will temporarily put the enemy asleep leaving them unable to move or act for a few turns. It’s another from of stun status effect which is designed to make character miss several turns.

Typically,, no character has sleep specific skill sin the game. However, character from the Enies Lobby Agent, Sailors, and other humanoid type characters will use items in battle. The item is typically the Sleep Bag, which has a chance to put to sleep all enemy characters it targets.

All of the Straw Hat Pirate characters have a sleep stat of 0, except for Luffy, who has -100 in sleep. It means that Luffy is the most exposed player character to sleep effects .However, character with 0 sleep resistance can still go to sleep, especially if they have a low guts score.

To remove sleep, Chopper’s Cure skill works on the target, as does items like the "Rousing Brew" iconRousing Brew.

What does Faint do in One Piece Odyssey?

Faint is similar to stun, and will act in the same manner as paralyze or sleep leaving them unable to act for a few turns. Faint is typically a status effects that follow certain moves. For example, Usopp, can cause enemies to faint who are successfully fooled. All this means are certain enemies are more open to being fooled, and have lower intelligence. Hitting those enemies, such as "Eisa" iconEisa can be fooled, and thus feint to moves like Rubber Band of Doom, Usopp’s Hammer, and other fool focused skills.

Likewise, all characters have Faint resistance stat. Usopp has the lowest around -50, with most Straw Hat Pirates around 0. Zoro, on the other hand, has 75.

If you are hit with a Faint status, then Chopper may remove it with Care. There’s also a generic item called "Remedy Brew" iconRemedy Brew, which removes all bodily ailments, however, they are rare to acquire.

What does Paralyze do in One Piece Odyssey?

Paralyze will temporarily stop the enemy from moving or act leaving them unable to move or act for a few turns. This move is typically a status effect which may trigger from moves that inflict lightning elemental damage. The best case of this is through "Nami" iconNami’s skills, such as Thunder Lance Tempo, Swing Arm, Thunderbolt Tempo, and more. Some enemies can apply it with their sonic attacks, such as the Concho Kancho enemy.

Each character in the game has resistance to Lightning, which will affect how likely they are to be paralyzed from lightning themed attacks against them. The majority of the straw hats are weak against Lightning themed, attacks, however, characters like Franky, Luffy and Nami have high resistance to lightning effects.

To cure lightning, use Chopper’s Care skill, or use the rarer Remedy Brew to remove ailments from your character, including Paralysis.

What does Confuse do in One Piece Odyssey?

Confuse will cause the target to potentially attack its allies in a state of confusion. This can cause enemies to attack friendly targets at random until the effect is removed or wares off.

Confusion moves are limited, but such examples may come from skills, such as Nami’s Mirago Tempo Fata Morgana skill.

Confusion can sometimes apply hallucination, which is another vision themed status effect that drastically reduces the chance for the target to hit.

To remove the status effect, try using Chopper’s Aid skill.

What does Charm do in One Piece Odyssey?

Charm will bring an enemy to your side causing it to attack its allies.
