Rudja the Dread Engineer Location¶
After securing passage on The Ardura Caravan, talk to Sekhema Asala and she’ll give you two destinations you can explore. To encounter Rudja the Dread Engineer, travel to the Mawdun Quarry and clear the area until you find an entrance to Mawdun Mine. Rudja can be found in the depths of the mine - you’ll almost certainly hear her cackling before you stumble across her lair.
Rudja Boss Strategy¶
Rathbreaker might have been a change of pace, what with his limited number of attacks and focus on endless adds and outside support, but Rudja is back to basics - this is a one-on-one duel with an enemy with plenty of attacks in a limited arena. As far as preparations go, fire resistance will help here so equip charms and accessories that boost your fire resistance if you’ve got them. Fire resistance won’t win the fight outright but it’ll help - a full list of Rudja’s attacks follow:
Grenades¶
An understated attack that bundles a variety of threats together - Rudja can throw several different types of grenades, include a cluster (3-4) of standard explosive grenades that deal damage on impact and persist on the ground a while, a flashbang that can stun you momentarily if it connects, poison grenades that create clouds of persistent poison and oil grenades, which will leave patches of oil on the ground and debuff you, making you weaker to fire damage. She’ll throw these out constantly, and they mostly serve as area denial and chip damage.
Flamethrower Burst¶
Probably the most dangerous attack Rudja has in terms of pure damage, she’ll root herself in place and fire a gout of flame from her flamethrower, slowly tracking you. If you let this hit you for any significant length of time you’ll take heavy damage, so you need to keep moving and avoid it at all costs. On the plus side, Rudja can’t adjust her aim very fast, so if you can dodge to Rudja’s flank or rear you can safely land some hits until she drops the attack.
Flamethrower Sweep¶
The second of Rudja’s two flamethrower attacks, and arguably the weaker of the two - she’ll sacrifice concentrated fire for speed, swinging the flamethrower around in circles, hitting the entire battlefield. Dodge through it when it comes around to limit your exposure and you shouldn’t take much damage, but this attack can ignite oil on the ground, so be wary of hazards during this attack.
Explosive Swing¶
Rudja will rig an explosive to her weapon and start swinging it clumsily at you. What she lacks in accuracy she makes up for in determination, covering a good bit of ground and swinging multiple times in succession until she either hits you or the grenade detonates without her landing a blow. In the former case you’ll take heavy damage, while in the latter case Rudja will catch herself with her own grenade, dealing some damage and staggering her. Focus on dodging as if you can avoid this attack you’ll get a fine opportunity to counterattack.
Avoid the myriad of hazards Rudja can cover the battlefield with and take advantage of her errors. After you defeat her, free Risu, Faridun Defector from her cage and talk to her, after which you’ll need to head to Halani Gates to advance this quest.
