Information about the Dustlander Sword in Saints Row, including how to obtain it, how to upgrade it and how to unlock its Signature Ability.
How to Find and Upgrade the Dustlander Sword in Saints Row¶
The Dustlander Sword is a Melee Weapon in Saints Row, and it can be acquired by completing the Mission [Unto the Breach].
As with all weapons, the Dustlander Sword can be upgraded three times, depending on your level. At level 5 you’ll unlock the tier 1 upgrade, which will set you back $5,000. At level 10 you can upgrade this weapon to tier 2, which costs $25,000. Finally, at level 15 you can max out the weapon by upgrading it to tier 3, which is quite expensive at $100,000. Upgrading the Dustlander Sword will increase its Damage and Bleed Duration.
The Dustlander sword is functionally a clone of the Machete, having the same attacks, stats and Signature Ability, albeit with different unlock requirements.
How to Unlock the Bleeding Edge Signature Ability for the Dustlander Sword¶
All weapons have a Signature Ability, which will grant the weapon a special ability when its unlock conditions are met. Unlike normal weapon upgrades, you can’t buy Signature Abilities, which can include boons such as life leech, area-of-effect damage, knockback, full-auto firing mode, armor-piercing rounds, elemental damage and bonus damage over time, and so on. Once a Signature Abilities unlock conditions are met you can activate it by visiting Friendly Fire or using the armory at your HQ. Signature Abilities can also be toggled off, if you prefer.
The Dustlander Sword’s Signature Ability is Bleeding Edge, which grants the weapon to inflict “…triple bleeding damage over time.“. To unlock this Signature Ability you must “Defeat 30 Dustlanders with regular attacks.” To perform a regular attack, just press the / .
As for finding Dustlanders, this might be a bit trickier, as this weapon doesn’t unlock until after the Mission [Unto the Breach], which is the last of the Dustmoot Missions. Dustlanders will still spawn after this, but in significantly reduced numbers and only in specific spots, meaning it’ll take some effort to unlock this Signature Ability. To do so you’ll need to return to either Fort Tapeworm or Fort Thunderpump. Both are in the Badlands South region, the former being just northeast of the Lone Wolf Fast Travel and the latter being in the southwestern corner of the region, just east of the Dusty’s shop. Small groups of Dustlanders will appear in these forts, but they’re rather scarce and consist of only 2-4 members. You’ll just need to run around these forts looking for these foes, and farm them when you find them. They’ll appear as gray dots on your minimap just like the police or any other ganger.
You’ll need to use the Dustlander Sword to defeat 30 enemies to complete an objective for the Castle Kraken Challenge, so if you want to kill two birds with one stone, farming Dustlanders is a way to do so. That said, it’s much easier to kill other enemies in Santo Ileso to complete the Castle Kraken objective, and if you really need a bladed weapon (half of whose attacks will be kicks, for some reason) that inflicts bleed, the Machete’s Signature Ability is easier to unlock.
