On your way to securing a boat to Wraith Island, you got suckered into doing a task for a pirate group in the Port Town of Brisk. You were asked to get something from the Abandoned Wizard’s Lab, where you will encounter the Chromatic Apparition boss at the end of the dungeon.
How to Beat the Chromatic Apparition in Sea of Stars¶
The Chromatic Apparition isn’t a difficult boss, although it has one attack that is very strong, and there’s nothing you can do about it. It has two different forms, although these forms don’t actually make the battle longer, as it just switches between them during the battle. Just be careful with the Alternate form and heal accordingly.
All Chromatic Apparition’s Attacks in Sea of Stars¶
-
Fist Smash: The boss will target a character and go to it, then raise both hands above its head for a few seconds, before crashing them to the ground. This will do around 25-30 damage.
-
Summon Enemy: The Chromatic Apparition will summon a Crystal Tulip into the battle. As you know, this enemy takes no damage at all but will self-destruct once its turn comes around. You get rid of it by breaking the Locks that will be present.
-
Shapeshift: The boss will change into an alternate form, that doesn’t have arms. This form will have two attacks that are exclusive to it, and it will be weak to normal attacks.
-
Orb Barrage: The boss will summon some orbs above its body, then fling them at a character in three waves. This attack hurts a lot, dealing upwards of 70+ damage, which means that someone could be one-hit KO’ed with it.
-
Arcane Singularity: The special attack from the boss whenever it’s in its alternate form. It will suck your party into its body, then spit them out. The point of impact will be when you get spit out, back at your starting points, which is when you time the block. This attack doesn’t seem to deal too much damage, though, even at full power (around 25-30 to everyone). If you want to stop it, you can just break the Locks.
Strategy for the Chromatic Apparition Boss in Sea of Stars¶
The Chromatic Apparition can be a tricky boss, especially if you start the battle and think it might be a little on the easier side. The boss has two forms that it will switch between with Shapeshift, one with arms (call it Normal) and one without arms (we’ll call this one Alternate). In its Normal form, the boss will only do the Fist Smash attack, and summon a Crystal Tulip. As described above, the Crystal Tulip doesn’t take any damage from attacks. However, once it preps its special, you will want to break the Locks, as it will self-destruct to deal major damage to a single character.
Breaking the Locks is the only way to defeat the Crystal Tulip. The Normal form will be weak to Sun and Moon damage, but will resist normal attacks. The Alternate form is definitely the more dangerous of the two, mostly due to the Orb Barrage attack. This move might one hit KO a character, since it does around 70 damage or so. This isn’t a special attack, either, so you won’t be able to stop it. Thankfully, you can conserve MP with the Alternate form, since it’s weak to normal attacks. This allows you to use healing skills, if needed. You should also save your combo points for Mending Light.
After the battle is over, you will receive the Coin of Undeath Accord, so it’s time to exit the place. Make sure you rest and save your game in the first room, then return to Brisk. You’ll find the pirates in the spot where you first encountered them, so go there and speak to the Captain. When you’re ready, choose that option and you will be whisked away to Wraith Island.
