The Door Lock is a simple defensive mechanism which can be added to most single doors in Sons of the Forest. It was added as a construction template in Patch 1 for Sons of the Forest, which was released on 9th March 2023. We’ll show you exactly how to build one on this page.
How to Add a Stick Lock to Your Door in Sons of the Forest¶
The process of adding a stick lock to your doors is one of the simplest things you can do with the building system in Sons of the Forest. There’s even a template in the Field Guide to demonstrate it, but if you’re still struggling we’re here to help. The first thing you need to do is build a single door, and for that you’ll need at least 6 logs. You need to stack these logs horizontally on top of each other, then take out our Tactical Axe (or superior equivalent axe) and chop away the middle section of the log structure. You can see this highlighted in red when you hover over it.
Once you have the space cut out between the horizontal logs, you can pick up some more whole logs and place them vertically in it. The structure will automatically adjust to create a door once you’ve placed enough logs there, and you’ll be able to walk through it freely.
Now comes the relevant part: once you’ve constructed a single door, all you need to do is pick up a single stick and face the door from the inside. You should see the outline of the stick (or a white line with an arrow on it) showing where it’ll be placed. This is the preview for the location of the lock. After placing it, you can hold to interact with it and open or lock the door as you wish.
The main purpose of the lock is to prevent any enemies wandering into your base without being able to stop them. This will only work for a short while though, since most enemies are capable of smashing through the structure of a door over time. Still, it gives you some reassurance so that you have enough time to stop them before they get inside!
