How to Defeat Alduin in Sovngarde¶
After using the Clear Skies shout three times, the mist will be permanently dispelled. Alduin will soon arrive, and you’ll be fighting him alongside the other heroes. For most of the fight, you’ll find that the other heroes effectively draw the attention of Alduin away from yourself. This makes the fight incredibly easy, since all you need to do is use the Dragonrend shout to force Alduin to land, where he’ll be in a stationary position. You can spam this shout so that he remains on the ground for the entire fight, giving you plenty of opportunity to use the most damaging attacks that you can muster, whether melee or ranged.
Aside from your companions, the fight is almost identical to the one you had at the Throat of the World. There will be fire rocks falling from the sky, but they don’t inflict much damage. The only thing you’ll need to be cautious off is the fire breath and the melee attacks from Alduin himself, but these can be avoided fairly easily, and you can heal up when they hit you too much. As ever, to bring Alduin down with Dragonrend, wait for him to hover before you use it, since it will be difficult to hit as he is flying through the sky.
The fight is somewhat disappointing considering that it’s the last of the main story, but at least you get another cool shout at the end. Tsun will teach you Call of Valor - Hero, Champion, Legend, which allows you to summon either Gormlaith Golden-Hilt, Felldir the Old, or Hakon One-Eye, depending on how long you hold the shout for before release. You can now take some time to explore Sovngarde in peace, and when you’re ready speak with Tsun to be sent back to Skyrim, where Paarthurnax will greet you. Odahviing will also state that you are free to summon him in times of need.
