Resolve is a feature in Rogue Trader that affects every single one of your companions. This somewhat hidden feature is responsible for players generating momentum through fights, allowing them to reach their ultimates and unleash the class’s archetype’s most powerful attacks. You should look into it more, as it can help make the game much more accessible to swing the fights in your favor, especially the harder game modes. Here’s a closer look at how Resolve and Momentum work in Rogue Trader.
Resolve Explained - Rogue Trader¶
To understand what Resolve does in Rogue Trader, you’ll need to first look at your character sheet. You’ll have a number in the bottom right corner of your stats and characteristics, indicating your resolve. This is your character’s base resolve from any passives, builds, and other factors that affect the shape. This number directly affects how much more Momentum you gain at the start of a character turn, and then how much more you generate from killing an enemy. The more Momentum you earn, the more your ultimate bar fills up, allowing you to spend it on Heroic Acts, or Ultimate skills, if you will.
In addition, plenty of talents and accessories affect Momentum and Resolve. A lot of these types of talents come from certain Archetypes, such as a Master Tactician’s Assign Objective Skill. They also have other Momentum modifiers, such as Inspire. Officers also have a modifier, which allows them to gain +3 Resolve via the Steel Resolve talent, while Vanguards can get +7 stacks of Resolve if they reach their maximum stacks of Unyielding via the Unyielding Resolve talent.
There are also key items to help with Resolve and Momentum generation. For example, at the end of Chapter 2, Calcazar gives you the Scarlet Signet of the Inquisition item. You can use this to gain a bucket load of Momentum when required. Furthermore, you have items like the Sororitas Boots and For the Defence of Cadia, handy for fights where you can guarantee that you will kill five enemies in the round either through AOE blasts, a solid Burst Fire, kill resets through an Officer’s Finest Hour ultimate, and other such multiple attacks and kill playstyles. You can also generate Momentum using skills such as War Hymn, which characters like Argenta have.
Essentially, you want to increase Resolve under some of the support builds in the game. Doing so will aid this ultimate generation, and if your character is an Officer, then that means extra turns to your primary damage dealers. All in all, improving Resolve, or farming Momentum via your kills is a surefire way to enable your characters to pop off and defeat some of the harder encounters in the game.
