Respeccing in RPGs is a feature that many gamers want. The ability to freely customize your character, re-adapt your strategy, or try something new is a nice touch. When it comes to Rogue Trader, Owlcat Games has added a method to get players experimenting with their builds, or slightly adjusting their party composition. Here’s a closer look at how to respec in Rogue Trader, featuring how to do it, and the system’s limitations.
Respec A Character’s Passives, Talents, and Skills in Rogue Trader¶
To respec in Rogue Trader, players will need to do the following:
- Complete the Prologue
- Complete the onboarding Rogue Trader Captain role introduction
- Speak to High Factotum Janris Danrock on the Upper Deck.
- Select ‘My Retinue and I are in need of training.’
- Click the character or ship you wish to retrain
- Change the character’s passives, talents and skills as required
It is important to note that respeccing in Rogue Trader has a few quirks to it. The respec will only allow you to change a character’s talents, skills, and passives as featured in the leveling-up process. It means you can try different ways to build the archetypes of your characters while still retaining the companions’ identity and playstyle that Owlcat created for them. Furthermore, the cost to respec begins at 0 Profit Factor, however, after a few respecs, it will cost 1, then 2, and continue to double for every respec. So, use your respec wisely, or feel free to check out our build pages for each companion with links for them at the bottom of the guide.
This is ideal if you created a build for a character using a particular party set-up. However, you found you wanted to adapt your party style, and so a build doesn’t work anymore. Alternatively, you can respec your Psyker to try a different style of magic. These are the types of decisions you’ll consider with respeccing on Rogue Trader.
Rogue Trader Respecs Via ToyBox¶
Bored of spending your hard earned Profit Factor on changing builds around? You may be interested in downloading the popular mod for all of Owcalt’s games called ToyBox. The mod is available via NexusMods, which offers players essentially a cheat engine to remove some of the canon restrictions Owlcat implemented in Rogue Trader. You can essentially give yourself how much Profit Factor you want to cover the cost of the respecs, or, alternatively, you can fully reset a character you want to reset, removing any limitations on companions like Ulfar and Marazhai. If that interest,s you follow the NexusMods link, and follow the download instructions on the download page.
From there, when you get in game hit CTRL-F10 to open the mods menu, then select the Party menu. From here, select All in the menu below, and then scroll down to the character you want to respec. You will be able to entirely respec that character for free, and remove any limitations set on them by the devs. So if you wanted that warrior playstyle for Ulfar, running in with Chainswords, you can now more optimally set your build around that style.
With that said, you now know how to create Rogue Trader respecs through legitimate and modded ways. To avoid wasting your Profit Factor in the future, why not check out relevant build pages we’ve been running in our Hard and Unfair games. That way you can spend more time playing, and less time
