Dragon Age: The Veilguard

N7 Day Mass Effect Gear

By
Nathan Garvin

If a franchise happens to have a robust fanbase and some major element that kinda-sorta resembles a date, it by law must turn that date into a celebration of the intellectual property. Perhaps the biggest example is Star Wars, which uses the phrase “May the force be with you” as justification for defiling the most holiest of days (this author’s birthday - which probably means he’d be a Jedi if Star Wars was real… or a Sith, it’s the power that matters, not the philosophy).

Another sci-fi franchise, Mass Effect, has a similar gimmick - the N7 vocational code is an honorific given to elite Systems Alliance military signifying… well, they’re really good at the soldiering thing and everybody has to respect them for it. Specifically the protagonist of that series, Shepard, wore the N7 emblem as a badge of honor, and for that reason November 7th has become a special date in the calendar of every Mass Effect fan, and a date when Bioware announces updates for said franchise. The launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard may have stolen N7 Day’s thunder this time, but the kindly folks at Bioware have given us loyal gamers a bit of a crossover gift to compensate, and this page will describe what free DLC you can get and how to find it.

Page Breakdown

Where to Find the N7 Day DLC

News about the next Mass Effect game was sparse this year, presumably so they wouldn’t steal Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s thunder, but the developers announced that - after downloading a patch - players could get a “small treat” if you “check out a new chest inside the Lighthouse”. Make sure the game is fully updated and boot it up, then head over to the Caretaker’s workshop opposite the Library to find this chest glowing away - it’s hard to miss, but if your first instinct was (understandably) to check in Infirmary or Rook’s room (aka the Meditation Chamber), then this will save you some time.

Open the chest and you’ll get three items: Command Helmet (helmet) Specter of Battles Past (armor) and Paragon of Leadership (armor). Punny folks over there at Bioware.

Find a chest containing this DLC near the Caretaker’s workshop.

Equipping N7 Day DLC

None of this armor is functional - it’s purely aesthetic, which is a bit odd as even the Mass Effect / Kingdoms of Amalur crossover had some in-game use. We might be old. Anywho, to apply these transmogs, head to Rook’s room (the Meditation Chamber) and use the Wardrobe there, where you’ll be able to apply the appearance of any armor you’ve found, purchased or otherwise redeemed over the default look of whatever you have equipped. Aside from the Command Helmet, this armor looks decidedly more Dragon Age than Mass Effect, so it shouldn’t be terrible distracting to wear while staying lore-friendly. Oddly enough, none of this armor has the N7 branding on it… which answers the question over who is more badass between Rook and Shepard.
