Dragon Age: The Veilguard

For the Love of Treviso

By
Nathan Garvin

The Evanuris are a malignant force in Thedas, blighting the land, corrupting their followers and devastating their enemies. None are exempt, and while some power-mad Venatori and directionless Antaam may be willing to trade their humanity for the monstrous powers offered by Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain, many are conflicted by power at so steep a price. An informant who has been wallowing in the pleasures of Treviso finds himself conflicted and calls upon Rook to prove their worth - only with such securities will dearly sought intel be provided, at great cost to the bearer. This page will provide a walkthrough for the main quest For the Love of Treviso in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Page Breakdown

Starting For the Love of Treviso

Complete the quest Blood of Arlathan, after which you’ll return to The Lighthouse, where the transitional quest The Words of the Wolf awaits you - talk to Solas in your dreams, then confer with your companions to determine your next moves and Lucanis will mention some business with the Crows that might lead you to the Evanuris. This quest will become available after the aforementioned conversation ends, you just need to travel to Treviso to start it. Talk to Teia and Viago in The Cantori Diamond (along with Jacobus and Governor Ivenci) and long story short, some informant has intel on the Evanuris.

(1 of 2) After finishing “Blood of Arlathan” you’ll chat with your group to fish for leads.

Meet the Informant in the Market

You still haven’t technically begun the quest at this point inasmuch as you’re not locked into anything just yet, but we’ll take care of that soon enough. Head to the Grande Market and make your way west to the cafe along the western edge of the market. Once you enter you’ll be locked in until the quest is over with, which won’t be long. Meet with the informant, who probably isn’t who you were expecting, after which he’ll go about demonstrating his love for Treviso while also challenging you to prove your worthiness of the intel he has in a rather odd way.

After your informant promptly leaves, you’ll have to defeat two Warband Karataar (shielded-bearing Antaam). Do so, exit the cafe, then track the informant to the Drowned District while inter-party chatter tries in vain to explain why nobody in the streets is reacting in any way to what must be a very odd and terrifying scene.

(1 of 2) Meet with the informant, who offers the promised intel, but at a steep price for all parties involved.

Defeat the Butcher

When you reach the Drowned District you’ll find that The Butcher has transformed into a Reaver - giving himself up to the corruption of the gods has given him power at the cost of turning him into a monstrosity, but even moreso, he can never enjoy the pleasures of Treviso again. A heavy price to pay for him to learn where the gods are hiding. Don’t be too quick to join the fight yet - there’s no real incentive to do so. Instead, just chill across the water and wait for The Butcher to defeat the Antaam attacking him, and when that’s done jump across to engage the Reaver that one was The Butcher of Antaam.

The Butcher isn’t terribly unique when it comes to Reavers - he’s got several lunging, unblockable attacks as well as a charge, but it’s worth noting that many of his attacks can be parried, leaving the brute vulnerable to followup attacks for a moment. Typically you’ll have to dodge some sort of unblock attack first, before the The Butcher will follow up with a blockable attack, so try not to over dodge, lest you deprive yourself of the opportunity to land a telling counterattack.

Your foes can also breathe fire, although this deal trivial damage compared to his melee attacks (especially the unblockable charges and leaps), it can still set you on fire. Still, this is a sustained attack with only moderate range and The Butcher isn’t keen on repositioning during it, so if you can get to his flank you’ll be able to attack unopposed for the duration of the fire breathing.

(1 of 6) Chase the informant to the Drowned District, and let the Reaver-Butcher kill his fellow Antaam.

Reduce The Butcher’s health to under 25% and he’ll wrestle away enough of his sentience to tell you the location of the god’s ritual. He paid a heavy price, but he delivered on what he promised, all so his beloved (albeit, stolen) Treviso may persist. Put the brute out of his misery and you’ll get some scenes, including a very unsurprising traitor reveal, after which you’ll be chatting with Teia and Viago again, who will promise retribution against said traitor at a later date. The quest will end and you will obtain 3,000 EXP, some gear (our mage Rook obtained a "Spellcaster's Stiletto" iconSpellcaster’s Stiletto, 5x Fade-Touched Crystals, +400 gold and +250 Antivan Crows Strength.
