Walkthrough for the Rotten Landfill area in Fallout 4.
The Rotten Landfill is east and slightly north from the Starlight Drive-In, just look for the stacked cars icon on your compass and you should find it without issue. Alternatively, the Rotten Landfill is due south of Tenpines Bluff, southeast of Bedford Station, southwest of [Wildwood Cemetery], as you prefer.
Rotten Landfill¶
This is a rather small, unimportant area with little in the way of noteworthy loot, literally just a giant, forgotten trash mound lying between Tenpines Bluff to the north and Lexington to the south.
The main feature of this area is a hill of rubbish into which some Mole Rats have built a surprisingly spacious den. Kill the Mole Rats (both Rabid and normal) inside and loot a Steamer Trunk full of goodies. The loot found here is, of course, random, and the Mole Rats found here generally do not scale to the player’s level, save for one or two, which may well be legendary.
Radscorpion Shack¶
While the Rotten Landfill isn’t terribly interesting in its own right (barring any legendary rodent spawns), there are a few locations nearby which are otherwise unmarked on your map that are worth checking out.
First, uphill to the west you’ll find a small shack under an overpass. Aside from the grisly cage nearby, the place seems pretty innocuous, but inside you’ll encounter a burrowed Radscorpion. Put it down, then loot a cage [Expert], inside of which is a radioactive barrel. You’ll catch Rads, but there are four RadAway inside the cage, three of which are on the barrel, so it’s a worthwhile trade-off.
Crashed Vertibird¶
Southeast from the Rotten Landfill, across the road, you’ll find a lack. Along the northern edge of this lake you should see the remains of a downed vertibird sticking out of the water. Again, some Rads are the price of greater loot, as along the western side of this vertibird is a suit of Power Armor, still fully functional after all this time underwater. This power armor scales to the player’s level, and the actual pieces present may vary.
