Here’s everything you need to know about the four Melee Pits in Horizon Forbidden West, from their locations to their requirements.
This is page is a work in progress, and will be updated.
What Are Melee Pits?¶
Before taking them on, it’s important to know what Melee Pits actually are.
Melee Pits are places throughout the game where you can test your hand to hand combat skills. They include tutorials, practice sessions, and challenges, and have the ultimate goal of beating each challenge — including the Pit Master as the last challenge in each.
They usually involve mastering different attack combinations. They are optional.
The First Melee Pit: Chainscrape¶
The first Melee Pit is located in Chainscrape and has a minimum of Level One. You must master the Block Breaker and Resonator Blast skills on the Warrior Skill Tree to take on these challenges and defeat the Pit Master.
For a full guide on taking these on, look at our page on the Chainscrape Melee Pit.
Talk to Odurg to access the Melee Pit.
Challenge One: The Block Breaker¶
You will have one minute to use the combination R1 R1 R2 ( ) to defeat your opponent.
Challenge Two: The Resonator Blast¶
You will have to power up your spear using R1 and R2 attacks until it is fully charged, then hold down R2 to launch a powerful attack. You will have one minute and twenty seconds to complete this challenge.
Challenge Three: The Pit Master¶
Now, you have two minutes to defeat the Pit Master. You’ll get a Pristine Skull as a reward for your trouble.
The Second Melee Pit: Bulwark¶
The second Melee Pit can be found in Bulwark. You’ll have to talk to Errayo to begin the challenge.
The Third Melee Pit: The Scalding Spear¶
