Frost Hunter Bow (Rare)

By
Nathan Garvin

Information about the Frost Hunter Bow in Horizon Forbidden West, including how to obtain it, how to upgrade it, and what the strengths and weaknesses of the Slicing Hunter Bow are.

Frost Hunter Bow Description

“This prized mid-range Tenakth bow delivers precise Frost payloads that can make an enemy’s armor Brittle or detonate Chillwater Canisters.”

You can buy the Frost Hunter Bow from the Hunter in Plainsong, as well as from a Hunter east of LATOPOLIS.

How to Get the Frost Hunter Bow

Location Cost
Plainsong Hunter/LATOPOLIS Hunter 549 Metal Shards + 1x Scrapper Circulator

You can buy this bow from various merchants in the eastern half of the Forbidden West. To access these areas you must complete the quest The Embassy. The Hunter in Plainsong, as always, is a good source of mid-game weaponry, but you can get this weapon even earlier, from a Hunter just to the west of LATOPOLIS, whom you’ll probably visit during the quest Death’s Door.

In addition to Metal Shards you’ll need to furnish the merchant with a Scrapper Circulator, an Uncommon drop from Scrappers.

How to Use the Frost Hunter Bow

The Frost Hunter Bow is one of the earlier sources of Frost damage, especially if you prefer using Hunter Bows over Blastslings, which is one of the few boasts that can be made about this weapon. Its Frost damage output and Frost Buildup are both fairly low, however, so at best you should expect this weapon to be transitional, albeit in a midrange form-factor.

Despite the “Frost” in its name, this weapon is also capable of firing Acid Arrows with similar proficiency and damage output, for better or worse.

Although its on-paper number aren’t great, when used in conjuction with “Triple Shot”, Hunter Bows like this can actually output decent elemental buildup.

Further boosting this weapon are its two perks: Draw speed (unlocked at Rank I and improved at Rank IV) and Overdraw Damage (unlocked at Rank III). These are complimentary perks, allowing you to draw arrows fully faster, and rewarding you for doing so.

Like most rare weapons, this specimen can gain up to two Coil Slots when fully upgraded.
