You will eventually unlock a second home for your game upon reaching Chapter 4 and progressing the main story there. This second home allows you to do some cooking, farming and even make a decent chunk of money, through fulfilling orders. You can also get some pets for your second home, although these aren’t going to be given to you right away.
How to Unlock Pets in Like a Dragon: Ishin¶
You have the option to get a total of six pets for your second home in Ishin, with there being three dogs and three cats. All of them are connected to Substories, with all of them being accessible as soon as you unlock your second home. After doing the Substories, you will unlock bonds for each of the animals, with those usually requiring you to do the same things as the Substory objectives. There might be some variations, where you need a specific item, or you have to do something else, like fight enemies, but maxing the bonds of the animals is very easy.
As already mentioned, all of the animals are tied to Substories, which are as follows:
- Substory 16 - The Barking Dog
- Substory 17 - The Lucky Cat
- Substory 28 - The Hungry Cat
- Substory 36 - The Injured Dog
- Substory 54 - The Patient Dog
- Substory 55 - The Filthy Cat
What Can Pets Do in Like a Dragon: Ishin¶
So, you got some of the pets and are wandering what you can do with them? For starters, it’s a good idea to build some beds for them, which is done using Virtue. It doesn’t seem like you actually need them to have the pets, but they factor in into the extra things pets can do at your second home. Dogs have a chance to bring back an item for you, which can be found whenever you see the dog by the doghouse. For cats, they will just sometimes cause a customer to give you an extra item whenever you do the Orders inside the house. Neither of these options will give you a lot of items, but it is extra items you would otherwise not get, but don’t make it a thing to go out of your way for it.
Pets also have their own entries in the Diligence Records, in that, you will be able to interact with them at your second home. Whenever you see a speech bubble above their head, you can interact with them and select one of three options. It doesn’t matter what you really do here, as there’s no hidden affinities or something, so just pick one of the options. Each type of animal will have three entries in the Diligence Records for interacting with them, which are set at 5, 10, and 30 times. You can interact with each cat and dog, so it’s a good idea to get them all to make this easier.
