You may not know it, but there is an Arena in Like a Dragon: Ishin. Although you might have heard about it from some citizens of Kyo, you might not find it, as it doesn’t appear on the map until you head on to the second floor which makes it hidden from plain sight. This page will show you where to find the Arena in Like a Dragon: Ishin.
Arena Location¶
The Arena can be accessed as early as Chapter 2 when you enter Mukurogai for the first time, although it may be too difficult at this stage of the game, especially if you’re playing on the harder difficulties. Mukurogai is a dark and dingy place that hosts the dregs of society which makes it a great place for criminals to hang out. Aside from the questionable people you can find there, it does have an Arena among other gambling activities, but you’ll need to navigate around its claustrophobic surroundings to find it.
There are two ways into Mukurogai, from the Boatman, that you initially used to get there, or the large gate with the “guard” outside, south of the Scarecrow Chateau. From the Boatman, take the west path past the Mahjong Spot, and take the stairs to your right, opposite the Arms Dealer. Continue up both sets of stairs where you’ll see a door straight in front of you with a group of people sitting down next to it. This is the Arena.
What Can You Do in the Arena¶
Go through the door, and you’ll be in a small room where you can’t change your camera view. Here, you can access your inventory at the back of the room, and a Kiosk where you can access all your Arena needs. Talk to the Arena Receptionist and you’ll see there are four options to choose from:
- Compete: This is the option you select to start the arena where you will get a choice of Knockout Match or Hundred-Man Beatdown.
- Spend Points: This is the Arena Shop where you’ll spend all your hard-earned fighting orbs (currency).
- Opponents: This will show you every enemy you’ve fought in the arena, and what they can drop as well as other information like your win/loss against them.
- Rules: This will show you the Arena Rules.
Knockout Match¶
When you select a Knockout Match, you’ll see seven different tournaments to choose from with the last one being locked for now. These are Baptism by Fire, Proving Grounds, Weapon Savants, Barehanded War, Frenzy of Blades, The Loaded Chamber, and the Banquet of Might. The only difference the tournaments have are what type of enemies, and what type of loot they drop. You can still use any style to take them on, and the difficulty doesn’t really change too much.
Each Knockout Tournament consists of five matches where your health will get carried over to each fight, and you won’t be able to heal (unless you have specific equipment equipped). When you pick a tournament, the competitors and possible drops will get randomized.
Hundred-Man Beatdown¶
This mode pits you against 100 enemies, and your goal is to defeat them all without dying. At regular intervals, a mini-boss will appear among the group to make things more difficult. You can do this mode with any of the Swordsman, Gunman, Wild Dancer, and Brawler Styles.
Arena Rewards¶
Other than the materials you get by defeating the enemies in the Arena, there is also a shop where you can spend the currency you earn by completing the various tournaments. The stand-out items are the Golden Sword, the Ebisu’s Eboshi, and the Alertness Hood which will set you back 250,000 points just for the three. Then you have a variety of rare materials that can be used in Smithing including the elusive Silver Hammers.
