Substories are the wackier stories in the Like A Dragon series, to offshoot the more serious tone of the main story. You will first unlock the ability to do Substories in Chapter 2, although they aren’t shown on your map, so you will need to fully explore each map to find them. This page will give a walkthrough of the It’s What’s on the Inside Substory, found in Mibu.
Where to Start It’s What’s on the Inside in Like a Dragon: Ishin¶
Chapter 5 is when you gain access to this Substory, although you will need to push the main story until you meet with Yamazaki. Once you are past that part, head to Mibu and walk along the path to the west of the tea shop there. As you pass through the gate there, you will hear a woman scream. This will trigger a scene, that eventually leads to the start of the Substory.
How to Complete It’s What’s on the Inside in Like a Dragon: Ishin¶
After the initial scene that begins this Substory, head on over to the samurai and speak with him; he’s sitting on the bench right outside the tea shop. He’s a little down, as he apparently rescues a lot of women, but his face seems to drive them away. While speaking to him, a woman walks by and recognizes Aguri (the samurai). After some more conversation, you learn Suzu is going to meet with someone named Ikesugi, who seems to be after Suzu, too. Aguri runs off, presumably to see what is going on with those two, so it’s time to chase after them all.
Exit Mibu and head on over to the eastern side of Rakunai, where you should see the substory marker just east of the pawn shop, next to the riverbank. Approach the marker to initiate a scene, then you’ll eventually get a prompt to say something to Aguri. Respond with Have faith with Suzu, with him saying that Suzu likes to frequent the shrine by the Shinsengumi barracks, so it’s back to Mibu. Of course, Ryoma overhears something else, so he decides to go check up on Suzu and Aguri. Return to Mibu and go to the western side of the map, where you will see the shrine.
You see Ikesugi’s true self here, then it’ll come down to a fight between Ryoma (with Aguri on your side) and Ikesugi (with the other enemies there). You’ll be up against five enemies in total, all of them using katana. Ikesugi might be a little tougher than the others, but all of the enemies here really present nothing, in terms of challenge. Defeat all of them, then walk the scenes afterwards, which will lead to the end of the Substory.
