Monster Hunter Rise

How to Use the Sword and Shield

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

The Sword and Shield are a melee weapon type that deal cut and blunt damage. The Sword and Shield are one of the most beginner friendly weapons because players can deal damage with the sword whilst also guarding using the shield. Whilst they are considered a lower damage weapon type, they do have a low recovery time, meaning you’ll be able to deal a lot of chain attacks and combos.

The Sword and Shield are great for the player who wants a little more diversity. You have the ability to do both cut damage using your sword and blunt damage using shield attacks. You can also use items without sheathing your weapon by pressing Monster Hunter Rise Screenshot + Monster Hunter Rise Screenshot. The downside to the Sword and Shield is that it has a relatively short range meaning you’ll have to remain close to the monster to attack it.

You can use your shield to defend yourself from incoming blows and also stun the monster.

(1 of 2) The Windmill is a spinning slashing move

The Windmill is a spinning slashing move (left), and Falling Shadow is similar to the wirebug move but you’ll also damage the monster as you fly. (right)
