This is a guide for Request 117: “"Magikarp" IconMagikarp’s Path of Solitude” in the “Daybreak” DLC for Pokémon Legends: "Arceus" IconArceus (PLA).

How to Unlock Request 117

(1 of 2) This is the last time you’ll see Gared…

This is the last time you’ll see Gared… (left), …Is what we’d like to say. (right)

After completing Request 102, you can receive 10 requests related to the Path of Solitude–including this request–by speaking to Gared at the Jubilife Village Training Grounds.

1. Participate in the Path of Solitude with Magikarp

To complete this request, you must conquer the Path of Solitude with the strongest Magikarp you can muster.

Speak to Ingo at the Training Grounds with Magikarp as your only party member and choose the “Path of Solitude” option. You can change your party by choosing the “Select Pokémon” option when speaking with Ingo.

Of the first batch of Path of Solitude requests, this one takes the cake by far. When reading the request description, you’re recommended to bring a “sturdy” Magikarp, but nothing short of a Level 90+ Magikarp will pass this frankly ridiculous challenge.

(1 of 2) Your Magikarp must survive not just one…

Your Magikarp must survive not just one… (left), …But two Self-Destructs. (right)

You see, Magikarp has no moves it can learn, besides Splash, which does nothing. Meanwhile, its opponent will use Self-Destruct to massively damage Magikarp and itself. The key to winning is surviving not one, but two Self-Destruct attacks. If it was just one Self-Destruct, this battle could be won at a far lower Level…

Besides that, your Magikarp needs a Defense-boosting Nature, like Bold. Otherwise it must be higher Level still! Plus it needs max Effort Levels in HP and Defense. Please tell us you didn’t waste all your Grit Rocks.

The hardest part is obviously grinding Magikarp to Level 90+. We hope you saved all your Exp. Candies and Rare Candy! You can also buy Exp. Candies from Bonn, near Galaxy Hall, but they aren’t cheap.

(1 of 2) Try grinding the Alabaster Blissey to begin with, then using candies near the end.

Try grinding the Alabaster Blissey to begin with, then using candies near the end. (left), These are the kind of stats your Magikarp needs to survive. (right)

If you only need experience, a good place to grind is the two "Blissey" IconBlissey at the Alabaster Icelands (here and here). Wait for them to turn their backs at you, then toss Magikarp to surprise them. Afterwards, immediately switch to your main damage dealer. That way, Magikarp will receive more experience than simply being in your party. If you wait, these Blissey will re-spawn (you can try KOing "Ambipom" IconAmbipom or other nearby Pokémon in the meantime).

Reward for Request 117

We’re guessing not many people will see this completion screen.

For outlasting "Electrode" IconElectrode, Ingo will give you some rewards such as Exp. Candies or Grit items. Additionally, for your first clear, he’ll add a “Path of Solitude” stamp in Magikarp’s Pokédex page.

Show the stamp to Gared to complete this request, earning you:

  • Seed of Mastery x1
  • Exp. Candy L x1

If you’ve completed all 10 of Gared’s initial requests, he’ll give you 5 more, starting with Request 118 and ending at Request 122.
