This page includes strategies for fighting Frenzied Noble Arcanine in Pokémon Legends Arceus (PLA).
As part of the main story, you must calm the fury of Hisuian Arcanine, the Noble Pokémon that resides over the Cobalt Coastlands.
Hisuian Arcanine’s Info¶
Hisuian Arcanine is a new form of Arcanine. It evolves from a Hisuian Growlithe after using a Fire Stone.

Hisuian Arcanine’s Weaknesses & Strengths¶
The Hisuian Arcanine is weak to Fighting and Rock (2x damage) and exceptionally weak to Water and Ground (4x damage). It resists Normal, Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug and Fairy moves.
Hisuian Arcanine’s Attacks¶
Versus You¶
When battling Noble Arcanine head on, these are the attacks to watch out for.
Very often, Arcanine will hop on the spot, then crouch down and its eyes will gleam like Noble Kleavor. The raging mutt will then charge forward in the straight line. Be sure to dodge out of the way with the Y button. For good measure, we recommend dodging to the sides.
If possible, avoid staying near the center of the arena. When you’re near the center, Arcanine may briefly idle while looking slightly up. It’ll then bounce upwards and come crashing down in the center, creating a shockwave. This move is quite hard to anticipate and dodge, but if you’re away from the center, Arcanine won’t use it.
After a while, Arcanine will gear up for its ultimate attack. It’ll summon 5 fireballs above it. If left to its own devices, Arcanine will summon a fiery tornado that deals massive damage and never misses. To stop this attack, you must run towards Arcanine and keep throwing balms until the 5 fireballs disappear. This will also stun Arcanine.
Upon reaching half HP, Arcanine will briefly pause to surround itself with embers. It’ll then perform a shockwave attack at the center of the arena, leaving behind a circle of flames. Entering this circle will cause damage. The circle also covers the entre central part of the arena, effectively limiting your movemnt to a small space.
Versus Pokémon¶
When sending a Pokémon to fight Arcanine the Noble will use these moves:
- Fire Fang: A ferocious Fire-type move that can inflict a burn or cause flinching.
- Raging Fury: A powerful Fire-type move that causes the user to be fixated. If the user repeats the same move, it will deal more damage, but receive more damage too.
- Rock Slide: A solid Rock-type move that may cause the foe to flinch.
- Crunch: A strong Dark-type that may lower the target’s defensive stats.
Battling Hisuian Arcanine¶
Recommended Pokémon¶
Water and Ground-types have a major advantage, since their attacks deal quadruple damage. Of the two, Water is better, to resist Fire Fang and Raging Fury. Ground-types will resist Rock Slide, however.
Besides those, Fighting and Rock-types are also good choices. Besides being super-effective, Fighting-type will resist Rock Slide and Crunch (although the latter doesn’t benefit from STAB, so isn’t as dangerous), while Rock-types resist Fire Fang and Raging Fury.
Strategy¶
As always, your aim is to throw balms–Volcano Balms–at the Noble Pokémon until it throws in the towel. Unlike the Lilligant battle, the battle arena is awkwardly shaped, resembling a cross. This makes it a little harder to dodge Arcanine’s attacks, but thankfully its main attack is very predictable.
Speaking of, Arcanine’s main attack is its charge attack, which is signalled by the obvious gleaming eyes (like Kleavor) and always travels in a straight line. After using it, Arcanine will typically turn around once in preparation for its next charge. So it’s easy to know where it’s going next.
There are two things we recommend. One, avoid being in/near the center, because Arcanine may use its jumping attack, which it can execute very quickly, with minimal warning. Two, don’t bother chasing Arcanine when it charges to the opposite end of the arena. Wait for it to come to you, instead. Unless it’s preparing its ultimate attack of course.
The ultimate attack is very obvious: Arcanine will summon five fireballs above its head. Forget everything you’re doing and head towards Arcanine, then keep pelting it with balms, to destroy the fireballs. You get plenty of time to break all the fireballs, but if you’re too late, you’ll be hit by a devasting flame pillar.
Destroying the fireballs will also stun Arcanine, so you send out a Pokémon. You should know the rest. Deplete Arcanine’s HP to zero and it’ll drop its guard. For a brief amount of time, it’ll be defenseless and your balms will be more effective. After that, it’ll recover and continue its assault.
After dropping Arcanine to half HP, it will mix things up by creating a fiery vortex in the center of the arena. Entering the vortex will inflict damage, so don’t go inside unless you have to. This will greatly restrict your movement, but you should have just enough space to sidestep Arcanine’s charge attacks.
Eventually, Arcanine will prepare its ultimate move again. Unfortunately, this is where you’ll probably have to hurt yourself a little. Although it’s possible (just) to throw balms at Arcanine from across the fiery vortex, it’s very, very hard. Instead, so long as you don’t have critical health, run/roll into the vortex and throw balms on the other side.
