This is a guide for Request 98: “Massive Mass Outbreak in the Coastlands” in the “Daybreak” DLC for Pokémon Legends: Arceus (PLA).
How to Unlock Request 98¶
Once you’ve completed Request 97, simply chat to Mai at the Front Gate of Jubilife Village to start this request. Following the pattern of the previous two requests, this time you’ll be investigating the Cobalt Coastlands.
Like previously, you’ll want to accept Mai’s offer to head to the coastlands. Before you depart though, Gaeric will come over and give you 30 Sticky Globs. If you throw these at enraged Pokémon, you can stun them for a short amount of time (alphas will require multiple hits to be skinned).
1. Investigate 3 Mass Outbreaks¶
You’ll arrive at the Beachside Camp towards the west. Unless you’ve been burning Aguav Berries willy-nilly, we suggest giving 5 of them to Mai so you can see what Pokémon are in each outbreak. From there, head over to the most interesting outbreaks before time’s up.
In case you’re unsure, you must catch/defeat/scare off all the Pokémon in an individual outbreak for it to count as an “investigation”. You’ll know you’re successful when a message that says “the reported Pokémon seems to have gone…” or “A new horde seems to have formed” appears. Also, the game will display an update on your request progress.
If none of these appear, it means there are still Pokémon from that outbreak somewhere. Most likely they’re hiding or very far away. But they are there somewhere! Also, if a second wave spawns in the same location, you can do whatever you want, but keep in mind that it won’t count towards the request.
Finally, if the rainstorm/time limit expires before this part of the request is over, you should leave the coastlands and return when another Massive Mass Outbreak appears. If none show up, you’ll just have to keep leaving and returning to Jubilife Village.
2. Report to Mai¶
After you’ve investigated 3 separate outbreaks, fast-travel back to the Beachside Camp and say “hi” to Mai. However, it seems like somebody else had the same idea; your pal Akari/Rei will also come running along.
3. Battle Akari/Rei¶
To finish off this request, head east towards Ginkgo Landing and face off against Akari/Rei.
Survey Corps’ Akari/Rei¶
Pokémon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Clefairy | 60 | |
Mr. Mime | 61 | |
Staraptor | 61 | |
Prinplup (you chose Rowlet) | 62 | |
Grotle (you chose Cyndaquil) | 62 | |
Monferno (you chose Oshawott) | 62 | |
Pikachu | 62 |
Akari/Rei has come a long way, but you’ve probably faced far tougher foes.
To start with, Clefairy is easy pickings for a Steel-type. Poison-types are also great, but you’ll want to score a OHKO or you’ll take heavy damage from Psychic.
Mr. Mime can also be defeated by Steel and Poison-types. Other options include Ghost-types. Be wary of Hypnosis, which can slow your Pokémon down.
Versus Staraptor, Electric-types are best. Rock and Ice also work, but they’re vulnerable to Staraptor’s Close Combat. Expect Staraptor to use Quick Attack followed by a harder-hitting attack.
Curiously, your colleague has brought an evolved Sinnoh region starter that’s weak to yours. On top of that, they’re not even fully evolved, while yours should be (unless you’re purposely challenging yourself). So this should be a free win for you.
Finally, they still have their Pikachu that they refuse to evolve. This is also essentially a free win, but to be safe, field a Ground-type if you have one. Because its Volt Tackle can still hurt.
Reward for Request 98¶
After showing Akari/Rei who’s boss, this request will end. You’ll receive the following as a reward:
- Tumblestone x30
- Sky Tumblestone x30
- Iron Chunk x30
