Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Request 53: Octillery's Ink

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

This page offers a guide on how to complete Request 53: "Octillery" IconOctillery’s Ink in Pokémon Legends: ARCEUS (PLA).

Request 53: Octillery’s Ink.

This request can be picked up from Radisa, who’s found near the one story building to the left of the clothier in Jubilife Village. You’ll need to first complete Radisa’s request, Request 12: Perfect Pickling Stone before you can access this request. When you talk to Radisa, she’ll ask you to complete a Pokédex Entry for Octillery.

Where to Find Octillery in Arceus

Octillery can be found near the water in Cobalt Coastlands. More specifically you can find spawn points near Islespy Shore and the isles to the north. You can also find an Alpha Octillery near Castaway Shore.

Alpha Octillery.

Octillery Research Tasks

Task Milestone 1 Milestone 2 Milestone 3 Milestone 4 Milestone 5
research_task_icon.pngNumber Caught 1 2 4 10 15
Number of alpha specimens caught 1 2 3
Number defeated 1 2 4 10 15
Times you’ve seen it use Hydro Pump 1 3 6 12 25
research_task_icon.png Times you’ve seen it use Hyper Beam 1 3 8 20 40
Times you’ve seen it use a strong style move 1 2 4 10 15
Number of different forms you’ve obtained 1 2

There are a few different ways you could approach completing this Pokédex Entry. It would definitely be beneficial to try to catch the Alpha Octillery because the fight will likely be longer than with a usual Octillery, meaning you’ll be more likely to witness the Hydro Pump, Hyper Beam and maybe even a strong style move. Hydro Pump seems to be its most common move so if you battle a few different Octillery, you’ll likely see this move used more than once per battle (provided you don’t one-shot them of course!).

Alpha Octillery are more likely to use Hydro Pump.

You’ll want to make up the bulk of your research levels by catching Octillery. So if you catch four Octillery you’ll gain 6 research points, and if one of those is the Alpha then you’ll gain another research point for the number of ‘alpha specimens caught’ research task. It’s in your best interest to engage in battle with Octillery since a lot of their tasks rely on witnessing their move set. Most of the moves in question are higher level moves, so you’re more likely to witness the Alpha use them, but the normal Octillery will also use them occasionally. When fighting the Alpha Octillery, you can definitely hedge your bets on seeing it use Hydro Pump, Hyper Beam and/or a strong style move, but with normal Octillery it’s a bit more random. Even if you’re a bit under levelled, it might be worth fighting the Alpha Octillery just to increase your chances of seeing Hyper Beam or Hydro Pump! Don’t forget that you can also “farm” Alpha Pokémon, since they respawn after two in-game days - just pass the time at a camp and you can return to its spawn point and fight it again.

Essentially, your main focus is to catch Octillery and then make up the remaining points however you find easiest, since witnessing moves can be a bit random. If you have an Electric-type Pokémon you could also just go around battling Octillery with said Pokémon!

Once you’ve completed the Pokédex entry, head back and speak to Radisa to complete the request. You’ll earn x5 Bean Cakes and x1 Exp. Candy M.
