138. Timber Rattlesnake¶
There are essentially two types of snakes in Red Dead Redemption 2; land snakes and aquatic snakes. The Timber Rattlesnake is a land snake, and as such can be found throughout the states. They’re relatively hard to find, so actively hunting for them is going to be a tedious affair. Instead, the best way to find them is while hunting for other game or when riding your horse from one destination to the next. Keep an eye out for red markers on your minimap which appears to mark threats. Land snakes fortunately tend to warn you and reveal themselves before attacking, so whenever you see the aforementioned red threat marker (or hear your horse fretting) start looking for the offending snake.
Two spots where land snakes spawn somewhat regularly seems to be near Fort Brennand and near a fallen log in Black Bone Forest.

141. Midland Water Snake¶
There are essentially two types of snakes in Red Dead Redemption 2; land snakes and aquatic snakes. The Midland Water Snake is an aquatic snake, which are somewhat tricky to hunt. Unlike land snakes, aquatic snakes have a much smaller range, usually appearing in Lemoyne, between the Bluewater Marsh region, down the east coast of Lemoyne, down to the marshes southwest of Saint Denis (Crawdad Willies area). While their range is smaller, they’re more difficult to spot due to them dwelling in the water - and swimming around blindly hoping to bump into one isn’t an ideal way of going about things. Instead, use your binoculars to search the water for the snakes, preferring shallower waters so you can more easily retrieve the carcass. Water snakes are hard targets to hit, so be sure to use Dead Eye to pick them off… and be wary of alligators.

144. Scarlet Tanager Songbird¶
One of this game’s many tweeters - any of an assortment of small birds that are interchangeable for gameplay purposes. They’re incredibly flighty (pun intended) so you’ll likely need to use binoculars to study them, and perhaps just to spot them. As a general rule, when you’re hunting and you see birds flying overhead, take aim at them and try to shoot some down.
These particular birds (along with the Western Tanager Songbird) somewhat common and can usually be spotted flying in groups. They can be found along the Dakota River and the Kamassa River, The Heartlands, Fort Brennand… they’re fairly ubiquitous, really. Just keep an eye to the skies and look for groups of small, colorful birds and you should spot this species eventually.
