16. Hereford Bull

Bulls, like cows, are domesticated animals, and hence will regularly be found on farms and ranches. Unlike cows, however, bulls are more varied and also less common, with there usually only being one per pen.

Fortunately, there’s an easy way to locate all the bull varieties in the game. North of Saint Denis you’ll find a ranch where you can find a bull penned with numerous cows. Study the bull, save your game, exit to the main menu, then reload and return to the pen. This should respawn the bull… or rather, respawn a bull, as exiting to the main menu in this way will reshuffle the animal variants from a pool of possible spawns. In this case, all possible varieties of bull should spawn here, with enough saving, exiting, and loading. Just be sure to save after studying a new bull species to keep your progress.

17. American Bullfrog

The Bluewater Marsh area is a fine spot to hunt these amphibians, although they can be found through the swamps of southeast Lemoyne.

18. Northern Cardinal

One of this game’s many tweeters - any of an assortment of small birds that are interchangeable for gameplay purposes. They’re incredibly flighty (pun intended) so you’ll likely need to use binoculars to study them, and perhaps just to spot them. As a general rule, when you’re hunting and you see birds flying overhead, take aim at them and try to shoot some down.

Tracking down specific tweeters is tedious, given their sheer variety. Still, your best bet for this seems to be sticking to sources of water, especially shallow, wide sections of rivers where you can spy on animals on either bank from a centralized location. Tweeters can be commonly found perched on rocks near riverbanks. We had good luck hunting these birds along the Dakota River, at a bend in the river north of the Painted Sky area.

Another good spot to hunt for small birds like this is Fort Brennand, which is located north of the Bluewater Marsh, in a bend on the Kamassa River. Enter the interior of the fort, be patient, and look to the skies, as you can find a variety of birds flying around overhead.

19. American Domestic Cat

Usually found on ranches or in other civilized areas. One can usually be found infesting the Emerald Ranch grounds.

20. Cedar Waxing

Can be found along the Dakota River and along the coast near the Van Horn Trading Post.

21. Dominique Chicken

Usually found on ranches or in other civilized areas. One can usually be found poking about the Emerald Ranch grounds.

22. Dominique Rooster

Roosters are similar to bulls as far as their dynamic with the opposite sex goes; they’re much rarer, typically with only one per pen.

Fortunately, there’s an easy way to locate all the rooster varities in the game. North of Saint Denis you’ll find a ranch where you can find at least one rooster penned with numerous hens. Study the rooster, save your game, exit to the main menu, then reload and return to the pen. This should respawn the rooster… or rather, respawn a rooster, as exiting to the main menu in this way will reshuffle the animal varients from a pool of possible spawns. In this case, all possible varities of rooster should spawn here, with enough saving, exiting, and loading. Just be sure to save after studying a new rooster species to keep your progress.

27. Greater Prairie Chicken

These birds are common in The Heartlands area. They’re easier to spot when flying, so keep your eyes to the sky and you should bring one down before long.

28. Western Chipmunk

Found throughout the forests of New Hanover, Lemoyne and West Elizabeth, these rodents are small, somewhat hard to see and not as common as, say, Black-Tailed Jackrabbit.

30. Cougar

These cats can be found at a random encounter, where they’ll be attacking a stranger. You’ll likely hear the sounds of gunshots and snarling when this random encounter spawns. Otherwise they can be found in the western (mountainous) parts of the West Elizabeth region and in the mountains north of Annesburg (New Hanover).
