As you venture into Chapter 3 of Black Myth: Wukong, you’ll begin to need rarer materials, with one of them being Refined Iron Sand. This is a key material used in various armor sets and weapons that you unlock during the chapter. Because the material is of Epic quality, obtaining it can be troublesome, however, there are plenty to be found (or farmed) if you know where to look. Read on to find out where you can find Refined Iron Sand.

You can purchase some Refined Iron Sand from the Shrine Stores in Chapter 3.

Where to Find Refined Iron Sand¶

By now, you may have noticed a trend with the material drops, so Silk was the rare drop from enemies in Chapter 1, Cold Iron Leaves in Chapter 2, and Refined Iron Sand is the rare drop in Chapter 3. However, these materials drop more regularly in the following chapter. Although they are a rare drop in Chapter 3, you can find enough by either looting the chests or farming the enemy drops to craft everything you need. In general, you can find Refined Iron Sand by doing the following:

• As a rare drop from the tougher non-boss enemies in Chapter 3

• Commonly dropped by most bosses in Chapter 3

• Purchased from some Shrines

• Found in chests scattered about throughout the chapter, especially in the Pagoda Realm

Before you start farming the enemies for their drops, we recommend you check out the Shrine Stores for any you can purchase. Once you have acquired them, make your way to the Pagoda Realm, as you’ll find several chests there that contain the sand. When you reach the Pagoda Realm, from time to time, the realm will reduce your health and empower any nearby enemies (red eyes). Alongside that, you’ll find Lantern Wardens appear. These freakish creatures have long necks with white lanterns as their heads.

These can be difficult to defeat, but upon defeat, they have the best chance to drop Refined Iron Sand outside of bosses. You have to be quick in defeating these as they disappear after some time after attacking them, so when you see one, fully charge up your staff, run in and use the attack, Immobilize them, and then attack away, hoping you defeat them in time. As this is a rare material, the drop is not guaranteed, so only do this as a last resort, although they’re good to farm for experience, so it’s not all wasted time. After you’ve defeated them (normally two per floor), head to the nearest Shrine, rest and reset the enemies.

With a bit of luck, they’ll instantly respawn, especially if you have the reduced health effect on you. Otherwise, you’ll need to wait for the realm to trigger it again. Other enemies have a low chance of dropping the sand too, such as the Blade Monks, but the drop is so rare that you’re better off farming the Lantern Wardens in the Pagoda Realm.

You should have enough refined iron sand to craft what you want, from purchasing it at the Shrine Store to opening all the chests in the Pagoda Realm. At worst, you’ll be short on a few materials, which you can farm from the Lantern Wardens. If all this sounds like a chore, you could wait until Chapter 4 where the sand will become more plentiful.
