Black Myth: Wukong is a game packed full of secrets, so it should come as no surprise to anyone that the game features more than one ending. If you want to seek out the secret true ending, you’re going to have to put a lot of work in, but the rewards is new equipment, areas, and bosses! Keep reading to learn how you unlock both endings.
How to Get True Ending¶
When it comes to the two endings you can obtain in Black Myth: Wukong, the secret true ending is the one where you’ll need to do a lot of extra work and defeat some challenging bosses. There are several steps, and the majority of these can be done in any order so long as you don’t reach the point of no return late in Chapter 6.
Beat the game and get the regular ending¶
Although we’re not sure if this is confirmed or not (we beat the game ourselves), it’s still a good idea to go ahead and beat it anyway so that you don’t spoil the regular ending. This is as simple as progressing through the six Chapters and defeating The Great Sage’s Broken Shell. Once you’ve seen the ending and return to the title screen, choose to Continue the Journey so that you don’t accidentally start New Game+.
Complete the Secret Areas in Chapters 1, 2, 4, and 5¶
If you’ve been completing all of the Secret Areas as they become available, you may have been left wondering why Chapter 3 was the odd one out. That’s because you unlock this one after reaching all of the others and fully unlock the murals in the back of The Great Pagoda, another area that may have seem suspiciously empty.
You can find links on how to reach the Secret Areas for each chapter by following the links below:
- Chapter 1 Secret Area
- Chapter 2 Secret Area
- Chapter 4 Secret Area
- Chapter 5 Secret Area
Complete the Treasure Hunter Quest and Chapter 3 Secret Area¶
For the next step, you’ll need to have completed the Treasure Hunter Quest and then reach the Chapter 3 Secret Area, Mount Wei. If you’re a completionist, you’ve probably already finished the Treasure Hunter Quest, but if not, follow the link above.
Once all of this is done, return to The Great Pagoda Shrine (found by taking the path to the right from the Snow-Veiled Trail Shrine) where you may have noticed that every time you finished a Chapter, a new mural appears on the back walls. Once all of these are filled (by beating the Chapters of the main game), return and you’ll find the Treasure Hunter once again, speak with him and he will whisk you off to the Secret Area of Chapter 3, Mount Wei.
Defeat Erlang Shen and the Four Heavenly Kings¶
In Mount Wei, you’ll face the game’s toughest challenges, three of the toughest bosses back to back. You’ll first face Erlang, the Sacred Divinity, followed by The Four Heavenly Kings, before a final grueling battle against the transformed Erlang Shen. With this all done, you’ve essentially fulfilled all steps for the Secret Ending, now beat the final regular boss again to witness this new ending.
Regular Ending¶
There’s not too much to say about this ending, it’s about what you may have expected. Simply play through the game’s six Chapters and defeat the final boss at the end, you don’t need to engage with any of the side content at all to see this. It’s for this reason that we recommend that you get this ending first before seeing the Secret Ending.
