There is a lot to unlock in Black Myth: Wukong, and your spells play a large part in your arsenal. Many of these spells are game changers and can make some of the most difficult battles much easier. There are seven total spells to track down and unlock, and you can find out how to do that here.
All Spells by Chapter¶
The table below will give you a quick breakdown of what Chapter you can find each spell from, we’ll then give you more information on what each spell does.
Spell | School | Chapter |
---|---|---|
Immobilize | Mysticism | 1 |
Cloud Step | Alteration | 1 |
A Pluck of Many | Strand | 2 |
Rock Solid | Alteration | 2 |
Ring of Fire | Mysticism | 3 |
Spell Binder | Mysticism | 3 |
Life-Saving Strand | Strand | - |
Immobilize¶
This is the first spell you’ll unlock in Black Myth: Wukong and it’s arguably one of the best. As you proceed through the early stages of the game, you’ll be forced into a battle against the Bullguard. During the middle of this battle, you’ll trigger a scene that unlocks this spell.
When used, you will freeze any enemy in place, allowing you to get free hits in before your shatter the spell or the enemy breaks free. Alternatively, you can get away, heal up, and prepare for the next assault, the options are endless.
When it comes to upgrades for this spell, focus your attention down the left side of the tree first. Getting precious Mana back from breaking the spell yourself and increasing the damage you deal while enemies are under its influence is not to be scoffed at.
Cloud Step¶
The second spell you’ll encounter in Chapter 1 is another that you cannot miss. After you defeat the Whiteclad Noble, you’ll gain entry to the Blackwind Cave. Head through there and you’ll eventually run into a battle against the Black Wind King, upon which you’ll learn the Cloud Step spell after he retreats.
When used, you’ll turn invisible and leave a clone in your place that will attract the target’s attention. You can then upgrade this spell to allow yourself to perform a charged Heavy Attack while inside it. As such, you’ll want to focus on getting the abilities that increase the duration of the spell and the ability to move faster.
A Pluck of Many¶
Depending on the route you take in Chapter 2, you’ll either unlock this spell first or Rock Solid. As you work your way through the Fright Cliff, accessed by taking the right path after defeating the King of Flowing Sands and his Son, you’ll eventually find yourself taking a slope all the way down to the Yellow Wind Formation area, with the Windseal Gate Shrine lurking just behind it. Before you can access it though, you’ll trigger another encounter with the Headless Monk who will teach you this spell.
When used, A Pluck of Many will summon a group of clones that will attack your enemy. The spell has a long windup, so make sure you have the time to cast it, but the distraction they provide and the extra damage is very welcome. When upgrading the spell, look to get the abilities that increase the health and damage of the clones.
Rock Solid¶
As mentioned above, if you decide to head left in Chapter 2 after the King of Flowing Sands and his Son boss, you’ll find yourself in a cave. By heading through there and out the back, you’ll reach Crouching Tiger Temple, where one of the main bosses of Chapter 2, Vanguard Tiger awaits! Defeat him and you’ll claim the Rock Solid spell.
When used, The Destined One will harden his body and block an attack from an enemy. If you time it right, you can parry the attack and strike back with a counter. This is especially powerful if you upgrade the ability to give you large chunks of Mana back, just beware that it will decrease the window of a perfect parry in the process.
Ring of Fire¶
Once you reach Chapter 3, you’ll eventually pass through the Pagoda Realm after being captured. Once back outside in the Snowveiled Trail, explore the left side and you’ll find some stairs leading up to the Warding Temple. Inside, you’ll run into the old man who blessed your Gourd again and fight a rematch against the Macaque Chief. Upon your victory, you’ll learn the Ring of Fire spell.
This is a pure recovery-based spell that will enhance Focus gain and health recovery from your Gourd. You can upgrade the spell to enhance these effects, but it does require you to stay within the ring, and sticking around is something you’d rather avoid in Black Myth: Wukong. Considering this takes up the same spot over Immobilize, it’s an easy pass.
Spell Binder¶
The second spell of Chapter 3 can be unlocked by completing the Treasure Hunter’s quest, which begins by going into the temple to the west of Bitter Lake - North Shrine of the Bitter Lake. Save the man, speak to him, and he will then move close to the Forest of Felicity - Towers of Karma Shrine (go left at the first Shrine in the Forest of Felicity). Use your Ring of Fire spell next to him and then speak to him again to have him move to the Melon Field Shrine. This eventually leads to a boss fight, where you’ll get this spell after.
When used, you’ll block the use of any of your Spells, Transformations, Vessels, and Spirits while it’s active. In return, it will enhance your attack, allowing you to deal much more damage. If you focus on a more melee-focused playstyle, this spell can be very powerful.
Life-Saving Strand¶
The final Spell you unlock in Black Myth: Wukong and one that can be a lifesaver in some of the toughest battles. We’re still working out how to find and unlock this powerful spell, so check back here later.
When used, this spell will resurrect The Destined One, allowing you a second chance at defeating your enemy. You won’t have your Gourd replenished, of course, but you might be able to finish off an enemy that was close to death or survive an unexpected one-hit kill attack. You will have to give up the very useful A Pluck of Many Spell to equip it, however.
