The Dark Crusader in Lords of the Fallen is a class that players can select to play as. It is the lore-friendly class, which all the major defenders of the living god subscribe to, using the newfound powers of the Umbral to aid them against the demon threats. These ironoclad warrior in gothic armor use a mixture of magic, and medieval arsenals to defeat their foes and reclaim their land. Yet, despite their appearance, this is one of the classes that largely won’t be available to most players. If you want to gain access to it, here’s how to unlock the Dark Crusader in Lords of the Fallen.
Unlocking the Dark Crusader in Lords of the Fallen¶
To unlock the Dark Crusader in Lords of the Fallen, players can either do one of two things:
Purchase the Deluxe or Collectors Edition
Play part way through the storyline
Yeah, if you buy the game’s Deluxe Edition, you get to play as the class from the get-go. If you intend to play it as your first playthrough, then sadly, this is your only option. You will typically find the price of the base game is around £49.99, $59.99 on PC, or £59.99 or $69.99 on consoles. The Deluxe Edition is normally only £/$10 more than that. It’s understandable if you can’t afford that, to be fair. Modern gaming, am I right?
How to Unlock the Dark Crusader via the Storyline¶
The other option you have is to play the game normally. CI Games confirmed that the Dark Crusader class is unlockable as part of standard play, and is related to the storyline. Players need to follow the journey of the defeated lampbearer named Isaac whose lantern you wield. However, there’s a very long quest chain that spans the vast majority of the game to complete.
Isaac’s quest can be started very close to the game tutorial, in Abandoned Redcopse. You need to turn right from where you fought the Lightreaper after fighting Otto. and reach a broken bridge. Pick up the Flayed Skin item from the lootable icon on the ground. You will notice a path in Umbral leading to Isaac’s body, but it is blocked off until you do the following steps below.
- Examine Stigmas throughout the game: The first stigma is at the start of Lower Calrath which also yields the Wooden Dark Crusader Cross, another at the start of the Fief of the Chill Curse, one more in the Fief just beyond the Lightreaper’s arena, and one more in the Path of Devotion. You’ll naturally path into these locations as you play through the game’s main storyline and progression points.
- Viewing the last stigma allows access to an arena in the Path of Devotion accessible only in Umbral. Examine the stigma and instead of a scene, it will spawn an Umbral version of Isaac who attacks you. After defeating him, receive the Umbral-Tinged Flayed Skin.
- [OPTIONAL] - There is also a stigma in Upper Calrath showing a fight between Isaac and the Lightreaper, though this one is not necessary for advancing the quest.
- Return to Abandoned Redcopse and head back over to where you first acquired the Flayed Skin. You should now be able to open the blocked umbral path with the Umbral-Tinged Flayed Skin to obtain the Paladin’s armor set, Isaac’s sword, and rosary.
- After completing his quest, the Umbral version of Isaac will become available as a summon for the fight against the Lightreaper in Upper Calrath.
Once you have defeated the Lightreaper, and have completed the objectives above, and gone on to finish the game, you will find that you have successfully unlocked the Dark Crusader in Lords of the Fallen. Enjoy your newfound Paladin call, or at the very least put on your new gothic plate drip after finding the Dark Crusaders Corpse and getting its starting gear!
