The Tower of Penance is certainly a pain to navigate in itself, never mind when some doors require Tancred’s key before you can open them. It adds all that mystery as to what you need the key for. Luckily for you, Tancred’s Key will not have you on a goose chase. However, you’ll need to come prepared as it is guarded very well. Here’s everything you need to know about Tancred’s Key in Lords of the Fallen.
Tancred’s Key Location in LOTF¶
Tancred’s key is lootable from the boss, Tancred (go figure), located right at the bottom of the Tower of Penance. The boss is an important blocker, as it is considered the Guardian boss of the Tower of Penance Beacon. You will need to beat the boss to ascend the Tower and get the beacon, as the Tancred’s key opens the elevator doors for the three main floors, the basement, the main floor, and the beacon rooftop.
Tancred can be found right on the bottom floor, after you have descended all of the Tower levels, dropping through the various Umbral platforms, holes, ladder climbs, and leer shifting. When you reach the bottom, go through the tunnel on the right side of you face the outside world view.
When you reach the bottom, feel free to use a Vestige Seed and save it for an easy checkpoint to go to the boss. When that is done, you must now beat the boss.
Tancred has two phases, one where he is your typical paladin-knight type character, using radiance-empowered attacks, a few blast waves, some mirror images, and laser beam-type stuff you can easily dodge. Typically, they are slow attacks that are well-telegraphed.
When the first phase is done, you get a second phase, where Tancred comes back to life as a big demon creature. The creature is a lot tankier, with it being faster, performing long-distance leaps, jump and crash down attacks, and more. This phase is slightly trickier to get used to, so be careful. Your best opening for attacks is when it does the jump attacks and crashes downs, or when it does a handstand - that works too. It will also start making fire breath-type attacks after the boss’ HP gets below 60%~, and if you get behind it, you can freely trade with it much better. It may take some time to defeat the boss properly. Don’t be afraid to practice and learn the boss’s patterns before you start blowing consumables for your serious attempt at beating the boss.
When the boss is defeated, feel free to get its Umbral Scouring and memory, and then grab Tancred’s Key. From there, you can head back out of the tunnel, and use the key on the elevator. If you go up once, you will return to the main floor. If you go up twice, then you will arrive at the beacon. You can then choose to ignore the beacon and grab the Radiant Purifier armor in the chests next to the elevator bridge.
