There are a lot of souls-like games on the market and one thing they all have in common is treasures that are surrounded by traps. Mimics in Lords of the Fallen aren’t hiding in chests, but they appear as a gold item on the floor, so you’ll need to learn how to identify them to prevent taking unnecessary damage.
How to Spot Mimics in Lords of the Fallen¶
Once you have lit the first beacon in the story you’ll start finding mimic treasures sitting amongst normal treasures, so when you go to pick up your well-deserved loot you’ll take some damage and be sent to the Umbral Realm. However, you can still grab these items by using a Soul Flay on it and waiting for the enemy hiding inside to leave. Collecting the item will always give you a Vestige Moth and Charmed Paw. If you get caught out by a mimic, then you’ll need to rest at a vestige before you can attempt to grab it again.
There are some minor differences that you can look for to prevent you from picking them up, such as looking at the line sitting above the item. If it’s upright and still then it’s most likely safe to pick up, but if it’s angled and swaying left to right then it’s a mimic. You won’t notice these differences at a quick glance so you’ll want to avoid rushing to grab every item as soon as you come across them and instead clear out the nearby items and take a more in-depth look at the item.
