Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the first game in the fourth generation of Monster Hunter to hit western shores (Monster Hunter 4 remains in Japan and, oddly enough, South Korea).
Naturally, it’s full of new content and features that not only are new to the generation but new to 4 Ultimate itself! For those curious, here’s a brief list of what’s new!
Naturally, there’s tons of new monsters, including entirely new classes! New classes include the Snake Wyvern class. Many new subspecies have also arrived, including subspecies for the famous Tigrex.
Along with all of these new monsters are tons of new weapons and armor. Speaking of weaons, there are two entirely new weapon classes, the Insect Glaive and the Charge Blade! All pre-existing weapons have also been rebalanced and tweaked to further refine them.
G Rank quests make a triumphant return to 4 Ultimate after absent in 4. They are a new tier of quests set above Low and High Rank and are the most difficult quests in the game. Are you up for the challenge?
Accompanying you on your quests are the all-new Palicos. They are your Felyne allies who can specialize in anything from attacking to bombing to healing, and you can hire up to 20! You can even fully customize your first Felyne during character creation.
Say farewell to the underwater battling of Tri and 3 Ultimate! Instead, the terrestrial ground has been revamped to feature different elevations.
You can climb up walls, attack while climbing, and even jump off ledges and do jump attack combos in mid-air! If you can jump attack successfully onto a monster, you can even mount the monster and topple it, leaving it wide open for attack!
Finally, one of the most exciting new content added is the Everwood. The Everwood is a constantly changing area that is never the same twice, and quests that are done there are randomly generated and can be StreetPassed to other players.
Many rare items can be found there, especially a strange new item called the “Relic”. Get it appraised and it will turn into a randomly statted weapon or armor! This adds a whole new layer of depth to equipment and armor outside of the previously established method of forging and upgrading.
