Ancestral Steppe is the first area you will encounter and discover as a hunter, and will be returned to many times over the course of the game. A very varied and diverse landscape, with ledges, forests, and rocky mountains alike, Ancestral Steppe has a little bit of everything. Its temperate climate makes it an easy place to traverse, both for man and monster, and is the top area for beginners to travel to.

Other Areas of Interest
Area 5 is the Rathian’s nest. Find Wyvern Eggs here, but beware, for Rathian might show up to have her revenge on you filching her precious eggs!
Area 7 is an incredibly annoying area to fight in owing to the sheer height of the ledges. You risk getting attacked as you climb up to engage the monster, and if you are below the monster, you are very vulnerable to getting attacked via a deadly dive. Be especially wary when fighting a monster in Area 7.
A lot of monsters will like to travel to Area 9 to sleep. If a monster that’s not a Rathian or Rathalos has limped off and you don’t know where to follow it to, check Area 9.
Area 10 is the Felyne Village. Come here to recruit Palicos. There is also the fishing spot here for if you want to or need to fish.
