The Palico Board¶
In your house and at Sunsnug Isle is this quirky contraption known as The Palico Board. Here is where you can manage all of your Palicos. The following is a quick overview of what the board can do for you!
Deploy/Train: Here you can choose which Palicos to bring along with you. You cannot bring along any other recruited Palicos unless your primary Palico is set to Deploy!
You can bring a maximum of two Palicos with you, your primary Palico and one other. Any other Palico set as a “1st stringer” you can set to train while you’re gone to level them up!
Set 1st Stringers: These are the Palicos you can train. Their specialties will also affect the specialty of your primary Palico, who is otherwise unspecialized. More information is in the next section regarding Forte Skills.
Manage Equipment: Yes, your cats have their very own adorable mini armor and weapons. Here you can manage what your deployed Palicos are wearing and using. Check out the section on Meownster Hunters for information on how to forge Palico equipment.
Change Clothing: With no equipment, Palicos have default clothing just like your character. You can change that here. Purely aesthetic preference.
Edit Greetings: When you send a Palico out via StreetPass, it will have a greeting. Keep it appropriate and share your Palico with the world!
Dismiss: …you sure you can do that? You sure your heartstrings can survive the cutscene about to play? …really? Wow you must have no soul shame on you.
Hire Bonus Palicos: Sometimes there’s free Palicos for download from online DLC. You can check it out here.
Forte Skills¶
Your primary Palico is unspecialized, unlike any other Palico you run into. But if you change the Palicos you set as your 1st stringers, you can dramatically change that!
For example, if I have 3 Fighting Palicos as 1st stringers, my primary Palico will have access to Demon Horn and Piercing Boomerang. Both are offensive skills. What just happened? These are called Forte Skills.
So how are you supposed to get specific Forte Skills you want? You’ll have to recruit different specialties of Felynes as often as you can. This can be very difficult, but whichever area you are in, always go and recruit the Felyne that is there.
It’s highly recommended you acquire at least five of every single kind so that you can have as many Forte Skills available, and ready to tinker based on the nature of the quest.
