This page is dedicated to The Goopy Inferno, which is the third episode in Pianta Village.
The Underside of Pianta Village¶
When you begin this level, Shadow Mario will steal your FLUDD pack, meaning you can’t put out the lava using your water nozzles. You’ll need to avoid the fiery goop at all costs as you’ll get damaged every second you’re in contact with it.
When you cross the bridge, head right and follow the narrow ledge around the goop. You’ll need to walk past the first square hole, past the mushrooms and then head up to the left slightly where you’ll find a second hole to drop down into. To get to the underside of the mesh you’ll need to ground pound on the flip gate. From there, climb along the underside past a few different enemies until you reach a sliding mesh panel. Climb down onto the panel and press Y and it’ll go flying across to a new area. Once you’ve used the sliding mesh panel it will fall so you’ll need to make sure to get off it beforehand.

Continue climbing along the mesh until you come to a large swing. Drop down onto it and then jump over to the nearest toadstool. From there, continue making your way along the toadstools. When you reach a large red toadstool with a smaller green one on top of it, use the smaller one to jump up onto the mesh walls again. Climb over to the right and press Y to slide the panel over to the final section of this underside area. Climb to the center of the large mesh section and try to avoid the electrokoopa. Then, press Y to flip the flip panel so you end up on the right side of Pianta Village again.
Wall jump up the tunnel to get topside again and then jump between the small mounds of land between the fiery goop. Just to your left, you should be able to spot a large structure that you can jump to the top of. At the top, you’ll find the Pianta Mayor stuck on the golden toadstool. You’ll also finally be able to pick up a FLUDD pack! Somersault and use your hover nozzle to reach the toadstool and then speak to the Mayor to complete the level and earn your Shine Sprite!
