Description

This page offers a guide on the introductory area, Delfino Airstrip, where you will collect your first Shine Sprite.

Graffiti on the Airstrip

When you arrive on Delfino Isle, you’ll come across a large pool of graffiti goo on the Airstrip runway. Toadsworth and Peach ask you to investigate. The first thing you need to do is navigate around the goo to reach the FLUDD unit at the end of the Airstrip.

FLUDD

FLUDD is a device that you’ll need to use throughout the game. It shoots water and can also be used to hover above the ground for a short time. To shoot out water whilst moving, press ZR. But, if you need to aim the water, stop moving and use R to shoot a stream of water that you can then aim using the Left Analog Stick. To switch between the water shooting nozzle and the hover nozzles, press X. To refill the tank, jump into a body of water and press R or ZR. You can’t spray any water if your tank is empty!

FLUDD will be handy for clearing up all that goo!

Use the water shooting nozzle to clear up the graffiti goo on the Airstrip. You’ll want to focus the stream on the large mound at the center. After shooting a fair amount of water at it, a large gooey Piranha Plant, also known as a Gatekeeper will spring from it. You’ll need to use R and the Left Analog Stick to aim and shoot water at the Piranha Plants head. Do this three times to defeat it for good. When you defeat the gooey Gatekeeper, all of the graffiti goo will disappear and your first Shrine Sprite will appear!

(1 of 2) Defeat the Gatekeeper by using your water shooter

Defeat the Gatekeeper by using your water shooter (left), and you’ll be able to collect your first Shine Sprite! (right)
