Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Chocobo Stops: Resting & Fast Travel

By
Nathan Garvin

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a significantly larger game than Final Fantasy VII Remake, with large open world areas to explore. That being the case, being able to fast travel is pretty important for preserving player sanity - nobody wants to spend minutes trekking back and forth between areas on foot. Sure, Chocobos will help speed things up, but why not take advantage of those lovely SSD load times to move between fast travel points nigh instantaneously? Some fast travel locations are unlocked automatically, like points of interest (marked on the map with white hexagons) and Fiend Sighting locations, but you can also unlock Chocobo "Stop" iconStops as fast travel points and rest points. This page will discuss how these Stops work, how to unlock them, and what rewards you get for unlocking Chocobo Stops in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Unlocking Chocobo Stop Fast Travel

Scattered across the world you’ll find Chocobo Stops, marked on your map with blue and white Chocobo icons. On the field these appear as rundown bus stops with a tipped-over Chocobo sign, otherwise unfurnished save for a shelter of dubious integrity and a bench. You’ll usually also find an onion-clad Chicabo nearby, which will reward you for restoring the Chocobo Stop.

How do you manage such a feat? Simply walk over to the tipped-over sign and hold down the Triangle (DualSense-ButtonTriangle) Button. Once Cloud manages to hoist the signpost back up, you’ll be rewarded with a Golden Plume, which you can spend at chocobo ranches to unlock new Chocobo Gear. Fixing a Chocobo Stop also unlocks it as a fast travel point. More importantly, however, once you’ve fixed a Chocobo Shop, the native Chicabo will let you pet it - the greatest reward of all.

Resting at Chocobo Stops

In addition to their utility as fast travel points, you can also rest at Chocobo Stops. You do not need to repair the Stop to rest there - the bench is functional enough, whatever the condition of the sign. Just approach the bench and press the Triangle Button (DualSense-ButtonTriangle), whereupon you’ll be prompted to use a "Cushion" iconCushion to rest. Cloud and company didn’t have dainty posteriors in Final Fantasy VII Remake, but that has apparently changed for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, as you can no longer freely kick back at any bench you find. Instead, every time you rest, a Cushion must be sacrificed (how are they burning through these?!). Fortunately, you can craft Cushions via the Item Transmuter option in the menu, and they’re relatively cheap - just expend 2x "Sage" iconSage and 1x "Marjoram" iconMarjoram to create a Cushion. All this frankly just amounts to unnecessary busywork, but if you need to recover your lost HP and MP, just Cushion up at a Chocobo Stop and you’re good to go.

(1 of 2) Every time you restore a Chocobo Stop you’ll get a Golden Plume, which can be exchanged for Chocobo Gear.

Trading Golden Plumes for Chocobo Gear

Every time you fix up a Chocobo Stop you’ll get a Golden Plume from the Chicabo lurking nearby. These serve as currency you can use to exchange for Chocobo Gear. Just find a Chocobo ranch or other vendor of Chocobo wares and speak to the aforementioned vendor to exchange your gilded feathers for Chocobo Gear. These are cosmetic but there’s no harm in looking spiffy as you trot about on your giant bird. To customize your Gear, visit a “Chocobotique” (usually also found at Chocobo ranches). Just find the Chocobo sign and interact with it and you’ll be able to swap armor pieces and change their colors, so you can ride around in style!
