These Faceless enemies are never-ending and will keep respawning units at the north and south borders throughout the fight every turn, alternating between north and south reinforcements. So you have to Escape using the top row of tiles in the northernmost part of the map. That’s a lot of map to cover.
Endless reinforcements sounds like an experience earning party, except this is completely ruined as every single reinforcement in this map carries the Void Curse ability, meaning you won’t get any experience from killing them. There is thus no point to prolong this fight unless you want a really risky method of building up supports.
This chapter also introduces a new enemy: the Stoneborn . These units, while having very low resistance, have very high strength and defense, and every single one has Wary Fighter. On top of that, their attack range is 5 squares! You will want to try to one or two-shot them to minimize damage. On top of that, every single Faceless in this map has Savage Blow, which will deal 20% damage to all units within a 2 tile range after the Faceless initiates battle. This means that you will want to engage as few Faceless as possible on the enemy turn, or have characters that will guarantee kill the Faceless so Savage Blow does not trigger.
Our saving grace throughout this fight is the many Dragon Veins scattered on our way up the map. You will definitely want to bring a couple of royals this chapter. Using these Dragon Veins freezes every enemy in place for a turn , which trivializes the Faceless foes and allows us to take them out on our terms. You still have to watch out for the Stoneborn enemies, as they still have their ranged attack; however, you can use the opportunity to gang up on them strike them down first. Just keep in mind that you don’t have an infinite number of veins to use.
Ideally, every turn you will be moving northward, snaking your way to the red exit squares. Since there’s rubble around the road, your path will be a zigzag up to the exit. For this reason, it is a good idea to pair units up for this fight, limiting the number of units you have to move upwards and providing a good defensive bonus throughout the fight. But do unpair as necessary if you need more firepower to take out Faceless groups or Stoneborns. Start off by sending some stronger, more mobile units south to kill off the Faceless to the south at the start for the experience, if you’re willing to take that risk. Otherwise just send everyone north, pronto.
As you move upwards you can utilize the Dragon Veins whenever you feel the need. Using them every other turn will make them last longer, but don’t hesitate to use them in back-to-back turns either if you’re about to pass one or need to stop enemy movement. As you approach the north, you will likely see several Void Curse Faceless enemies who have appeared and will be traveling to the south. Here you should send your most over-powered units up to meet them as they won’t give you any experience.
The boss is simply a beefed up Faceless, nothing special. However, the Faceless in general are a cunning group. Given the opportunity, they will form a wall around the exit area, forcing you to defeat them to move forward, which wastes a turn, and gives the survivors more chances to wall you (and reinforcements, if they appear). This can potentially become a cycle that ends in your demise, or takes forever to work through.
Additionally, once your unit has escaped, they are out of the battlefield roster . Therefore, if everyone has escaped except your healer, every Faceless gangs up on the healer and they die, and you’ve lost even though everyone else escaped. So make sure that when your final units leave, they can all leave in the same turn .
