How to Start Army of Poachers¶
When you speak to a relevant NPC, you will have the option to choose the dialogue: ‘I heard you may need some help with a problem?’. The NPC will explain the situation, and you will be able to choose whether to send one of your companions along with 12 men to deal with the poachers, or whether you will lead the attack. If you choose to send your companion, you will need to wait a few days before they are returned to you. The quest shouldn’t prove to be difficult for them, so long as you provide them with decent troops. If you choose to lead the attack yourself, you will need to wait until midnight.
In this case, we need to travel to Montos to find and defeat the poachers. The location of the poachers will be different depending on where you accepted the quest, but you can always check your quest log to be reminded of where to go. It will be nearby and so should be easy to find, but if you’re having difficulty you can always open the encyclopedia (Press ‘N’ on the keyboard by default) and search for the name of the village, town or castle. This will provide you with a more detailed description of where the poachers can be found in relation to other settlements.
When you reach the location of the poachers, you will need to wait until midnight before you can click on the settlement and find the option to engage them. You won’t be able to see the exact time in Bannerlord, but you can view the circular indicator in the bottom centre of the screen for a rough idea. Essentially, whenever you see the moon in view, you will be able to enter the village.
Kill the Poachers, or Persuade Them to Leave¶
When you click on the location around midnight, you will be given two options. You can either talk to the poachers to negotiate with them, or you can immediately engage them in battle. If you have enough strong troops to defeat the poachers, this outcome will provide you with the most reward. However, if you’re not confident in battle or would rather speak with the poachers for any other reason, you can use your skills in Charm, Honor, Valor, Mercy, Calculating, and Roguery to persuade them to leave.
Negotiating with the poachers will earn you the basic monetary reward of 1,250 denars from the merchant and will also slightly improve your negotiating ability in the relevant skill that you have chosen. However, it will mean that you won’t be able to take any of the loot from the poachers, and more importantly, you won’t be able to retrieve the leather that they’ve been hoarding. The leather will easily sell for over 1,000 denars even at a location with an average price, but you can get close to 2,000 if you find a settlement where the selling price is high. In addition, if you fight the poachers you will be able to sell some of them as prisoners.
