Killing monsters as you explore is all well and good, but some critters - usually Ghouls, Nekkers, Drowners and Rotfiends - build nests and infest an area more permanently. Killing any mature specimens you see will only provide a temporary reprieve, as the nest itself must be destroyed by planting bombs to rid the land of the monsters for good. This page will cover all the Monster Nests in the White Orchard areas, including their locations and what monsters inhabit each nest.
White Orchard Monster Nest Locations¶
Monster Nest Location | Enemies |
---|---|
East of the Crossroads signpost map marker | Ghouls (Lv2) |
East of Cackler Bridge map marker | Ghouls (Lv2) |
North of the Cemetery map marker | Ghouls (Lv2) |
There are only three monster nests in White Orchard, and they’re all occupied by Ghouls. You’ll generally only have to fight several low-level Ghouls at each nest, but your job isn’t done once the monsters prowling around the surface are dead, as each nest has to be destroyed with a bomb. Your options will be limited in White Orchard, as you’ll likely only have access to the diagrams for the Samum, Grapeshot and maybe the Dancing Star bombs. All of these will do the trick, but getting the components to craft these can be tricky. You’ll either need to get lucky and pull them out of a container while exploring, or buy them from an herbalist - you’ll gain access to herbalists by liberating an abandoned site or by talking Tomira during the quest The Beast of White Orchard. Craft a bomb and you’ll be able to destroy these nests, and should you run out of bombs you just need to rest while you have sufficiently strong alcohol on hand to craft more.
Monster Nest East of the Crossroads¶
The closest monster nest to where you start the game; it’s just downhill to the south, although you’ll probably want to come back for it on account of… you know, not having any bombs at the time. Once you’re equipped, make your way back to the Crossroads signpost and head east to find this nest, then kill the Ghouls prowling about - there’s nothing special about them, and once they’re dead, drop a bomb in their nest, then loot it once it explodes.
Monster Nest Northeast of Cackler Bridge¶
You can find this monster nest northeast of the Cackler Bridge signpost, which you can reach by following the road northeast from White Orchard town. From this direction you can remove a bar keeping a gate sealed, but you can also cross the battlefield north of the Crossroads signpost if you don’t mind possibly fighting some Ghouls along the way. Either way, once you reach the monster nest you’ll have to fend off several Ghouls, and you’ve got extra incentive to clear this monster nest, as there’s a Place of Power nearby. Kill the Ghouls, bomb the nest, then claim the Place of Power.
Monster Nest North of the Cemetery¶
The third monster nest in White Orchard is the one furthest afield, being located a good ways north of the Mill signpost. North of the aforementioned signpost is a cemetery with a Place of Power in its midst, and you can also find the diagram for the Viper Silver Sword in the chapel nearby. Not a bad bit of gains, and this is just en route to the monster nest you seek! From the cemetery keep heading north into the woods and you’ll find the monster nest near another Place of Power. You know the drill: kill the ghouls, bomb the nest, then loot.
