Assassin's Creed: Origins

Cat's Cradle

By
Nathan Garvin

Suggested Level: 32

While Alexandria is where you’ll want to end up to start the next main quest, there’s also one more side quest you can deal with there. Considering its low suggested level, you might as well go take care of this short little quest. Fast travel to Alexandria and head to the Sarapeion, where, along a road running underneath the stairs east of the temple, you’ll find a mewurder scene most foul, a true catastrophe!

Investigate the dead cat (left), then follow some blood to a straw wagon, where a body has been stashed (right).

Investigate the fallen feline and Bayek will make an obvious observation, and this time the over-use of gore isn’t just due to developer excesses, it’s a plot-point! Make your way to the wagon of bloody straw nearby - which nobody is fussing over, unlike the dead cat - and pull a body out of the hay. Examine the body, then use your Animus Pulse to mark another bloodstain to the north, which you should also investigate.

Follow the footprints a short distance, then use Senu to locate your Roman-killer. Make your way to the enclosed courtyard where the cat killer killer, Khalid, hides and talk to him. Bayek will make a fair career suggestion, to which Khalid accedes, you just need to follow the volitile man through the city and prevent him from causing a riot as you go.

Find the Roman killer, Khalid, and escort him out of the city (left). He’ll cause trouble for you along the way by provoking Roman soldiers, so fight them off as necessary (right).

Escort Khalid out of the city, and he’ll show a disturbing trend of stopping to taunt Romans and air his pro-feline grievances. The first time, it’s to no ill-effect, but the second time it will be in the ear shot of Roman soliders - likely by design. Kill the provoked Romans, whose group includes an elite soldier and some arches, then trail Khalid to Alexandria’s western gate. Here he’ll pick a fight with a second group of Roman Soldiers, who are less impressive than the first. Exterminate them, then lead Khalid out of the city and chat with him to end this quest.

The year is 48 BCE, and both Rome and Ptolemaic Egypt are torn by civil wars. In the chaos caused by this political upheaval, a shadowy conspiracy seeks the mysteries buried under the sands of Egypt, not sparing any who stand in the way of their ambitions. One such aggrieved individual, Bayek, a Medjay from Siwa, now seeks revenge against this secret organization. Ultimately going back to the origins of the Assassin’s Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed Origins is a rebirth of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, adding a vast open world, a revamped combat system and RPG elements to the prolific stealth-action series.
