To start this quest, head over to Hotephres’s villa, which is… well, the dominant structure in Philadelphia, near the fast travel point and northeast of the Philadelphia Royal Granary. You’ll find Hotephres schmoozing with some woman on his balcony, with Khenut nowhere in sight. Looks like their marriage isn’t going to long outlive their daughter. Talk to him again and he’ll lead you to some docks northwest of the villa, where Khenut awaits at a shrine built to Shadya. Hotephres understandably isn’t taking Shadya’s death well, and in the absence of enemies to vent his frustrations against, has begun to denounce his allies and indulge in self-destructive diversions.
When you reach Shadya you’ll see that she’s dealing with her daughter’s death in a different, yet equally unproductive way, and Bayek will choose to indulge here where he chastised Hotephres, ultimately deciding to perform a Siwan ritual which will force him to run off and hunt for a heron feather. Or perhaps he just wanted an excuse to get away? If you don’t have a dead heron in your inventory, you’ll need to go hunt one down, whereas if you do, you’ll automatically skip to the next phase of the quest. Fortunately there are likely to be some herons in the water nearby, just head up the coast to the northeast and kill any birds floating around on the water you see.
Return to Khenut with the heron feather and she’ll witness an injustice being perpetrated. Seems that despite the demise of The Crocodile, the pressure on the Egyptian farmers hasn’t abated. Fortunately, this episode sparks some life into Khenut, and she finds strength in a new cause… or rather, persistent vigil in an old cause, as of yet unresolved.
Khenut may have driven off the captain, but the matter is far from over, and reprisals seem likely. Track the captain down, who is patrolling Philadelphia along with two annoying dagger-bearing soldiers. Follow behind them and listen to them scheme to confirm that they deserve a swift and bloody demise, then kill him and his attendants and confirm the kill to obtain a Fort Insignia . The power vacuum left behind by the demise of The Crocodile apparently has been filled, and it seems somebody else is giving orders to the same effect. Maybe Hotephres knows more?
Return to Hotephres near Shadya’s shrine and talk to the couple to learn that the new threat looming over Faiyum stems from the commander at Fort Boubastos, to the southeast in Haueris Nome. Before Bayek seeks out this new foes, however, he’s got a bit of unfinished business concerning a heron feather… this ends the quest “ Shadya’s Rest “ and begins “ Fighting for Faiyum “.
