Assassin's Creed: Origins

The Ostrich

By
Nathan Garvin

Suggested Level: 17

The Tax Man Cometh

Assuming you completed the quest “ Smoke Over Water“ and are hence at the farm south of Sais… well, there’s a quest here that’s a bit out of order, but it’s a nice break from the whole Sefetu business. Besides, it’s nearby, so you might as well tend to it now. Head to a small building on the northern side of the property, where you’ll find a woman yelling at a door. Talk to her to find out that her brother is hiding in the building, fearful of Sefetu’s men. Peasants living in fear of the heavy-handed tax collector… some things never change.

So much for getting away from this Sefetus business. Oh well, Bayek offers to help the coward out in the only sensible way; by finding and killing the tax collector. Head southwest until you’re near the search area, then deploy Senu to sniff out his exact location. Turns out he’s hiding in Camp Shemu, a small fort on the southern edge of Lake Mareotis.

Camp Shemu

This is a pretty typical outpost, playing host to a captain (level 17) and a host of lesser soldiers (levels 15-16). In addition to killing the captain, you need to loot a treasure in the camp to complete its location objectives. Being relatively small, the enemies inside are correspondingly dense, but you have a few tricks available to you. First, there are bushes near the gate which you can use to lure any guard nearby to their doom. Once that’s done, circle around the western edge of the fort and climb the tower near the lake - performing a ledge takedown on any guards up there - then sabotage the alarm brazier. From here, you can then just drop down on a platform nearby which houses two ballistae, which you can use to pick off more soldiers. Perhaps even the tax collector! Ah, living vicariously through Bayek…

Once the tax collector is slain, the quest “ The Ostrich “ will end. To finish matters off, kill the rest of the guards in the fort, then enter the tent in the center of the camp to find the red chest you need to loot to satisfy the location objective.

The camp is a small one and the Tax Collector is easily recognisable (right).

The year is 48 BCE, and both Rome and Ptolemaic Egypt are torn by civil wars. In the chaos caused by this political upheaval, a shadowy conspiracy seeks the mysteries buried under the sands of Egypt, not sparing any who stand in the way of their ambitions. One such aggrieved individual, Bayek, a Medjay from Siwa, now seeks revenge against this secret organization.
