Now that you’re done in Giza, it’s time to head south to Memphis. It’s a fair journey south, southeast, but aside from soldiers, bandits and beasts, a fairly uneventful one. From the Great Sphinx, follow the coastal road southwest until you reach the four-way intersection, south of which you’ll find the Depleted Quarry Hideout. At this intersection turn east and follow the road as it turns south, running past the Lost Village point of interest as you go.
Continue south along this road, which will eventually veer back southeast, forcing you to fork a river, beyond which lies the Ineb-Hedjet Nome. When you reach a fork, you’ll want to turn south to continue to Memphis, although if you were to follow the road north, then northeast to discover Per Ousir, synchronize with the fast travel point north, northwest of the city, and head to the eastern coast to also score the Pr-Hapi-n-Iwnw fast travel point, nobody would blame you.
From the previous intersection, follow the road south and in short order you should be seeing the squat towers of Mephis’s northern entrance. Just ford a river and enter the city, which, apart from Alexandria, is one of the largest bastions of civilization you’ll find in Egypt. Unlike Alexandria, however, Memphis is far… wetter, with parts of the city being more easily navigable with boats than by foot. The ethnic makeup of the city is different, as well, containing more Egyptian natives than Greeks, and the architecture and religious practices follow suit.
Your goal is Temple of Ptah in the center-west part of Memphis, where the High Priest Pasherenptah awaits you, hopefully with information on The Lizard. Before you go there, however, note that there are several sidequests in the city, including “Blood in the Water “ (Suggested Level: 20), “ Odor Most Foul “ (Suggested Level: 20), “ Children of the Streets “ (Suggested Level: 23) and “ The Baker’s Dilemma “ (Suggested Level: 23).
The next main quest “ The Lizard’s Face “ has a Suggested Level or twenty-one, but the following quest has a Suggested Level of 23… although it really doesn’t require you to fight anything that high of a level. If you wish to skip the next sidequests, then, you’re probably more than capable, but from a storyline perspective it makes more sense to do most of these sidequests now. Also keep in mind that the next main story target has a Suggested Level of 25, an takes you to an area with a level range of twenty-four to twenty-nine, so if your level is low, you might want to consider completing some of these quests.
In either event, you may want to consider claiming the fast travel points across Memphis to make getting about easier, and to update your map. There are a total of three opional fast travel points, one of which is in the northeastern section of the Temple of Ptah’s grounds.
