Method acting and a zombie apocalypse just don’t mix. Captain Vixen - Sarah Sheppard - has concocted a scheme to be the hero she portrays, but a real hero - you - will need to step in to ensure her quest to rescue crewmates doesn’t end up costing more lives. This page will walk you through the side quest Beacon of Hope in Dead Island 2.
How to Start Beacon of Hope in Dead Island 2¶
The third and final quest in the Captain Vixen/Sebastian storyline, you must first complete the side quest The Terror of Sound Stage 7 before unlocking this quest. Once done, travel to Hollywood Boulevard and talk to Sebastian, who will be in the safe zone. He’ll tell you that Captain Vixen went to the Chinese Theatre.
Exit the safe zone and follow the red carpet outside east, then south, and when you reach the end of the area, turn right (north) - your destination is marked as the “Old Dynasty Theatre” on your map. Clear out the zombies and talk to Sarah, who somehow got herself up on a balcony. At length she’ll tell you to head into the nearby Metro to find a Space Fox gimmicked spotlight filter.
How to Find the Space Fox Spotlight Filter¶
Fortunately, your objective isn’t far away, just cross the street to the north and make your way past where the helicopter was parked during the final story mission, Hollywood Ending, and continue east down some stairs into the metro. You don’t have to zone into the metro area, just keep going east until you’re forced to turn north through some doors, then turn west down some stairs, north one more time, and finally west again where you should spot some turnstiles. Ignore them and turn your attention to the ticket office along the northern wall, which is where you’ll find your spotlight filters.
Of course, getting inside will take some work, due to the maglock keeping the door shut. Like all maglocks, you’ll need to find several electrical panels and destroy them - melee weapons work fine, if you can reach them, but you’ll need to shoot, throw weapons at, or use Curveballs on the ones out of reach. Their locations are as follows:
-
Make your way to the southern edge of the ticket office and look through the window. You should see the maglock panel inside the office, near the door. Smash the glass, then destroy the magilock from afar with a ranged option.
-
From the door to the ticket office, follow the nearby wall to the east past some metro maps. You’ll find this maglock panel just past the metro maps, on the wall. You can also find this maglock panel by looking at the wires coming out of the ticket office door and following the yellow one.
-
Look at the ticket office door and follow the green wire across the room to the south - it runs along the ceiling and ultimately leads to a maglock panel near the ceiling by an archway.
With all three maglock panels smashed, you should be able to enter the office and smash a crate on the western wall, inside of which you’ll find the Spotlight Filter. Grab it and return to daylight. When you surface, you’ll find that Sarah’s plan has gone awry - somehow fireworks are popping off, and that’s going to attract deaders. That being the case, you and Sarah decide on a fair division of labor - you kill all the brain eaters, and Sarah will try to stop the fireworks. Kill the zombies (we had to fend off a Butcher and a Mutator, in addition to the normal Walkers and Shamblers - your mileage may vary).
When the zombies are double-dead, install the spotlight filter onto a nearby spotlight. All you need to do now is return to the safe zone and inform Sebastian to completing the quest, earning 6,000 XP, a legendary claymore called The One and the Born Survivor Numen Skill Card. Completing the Captain Vixen/Sebastian questline also unlocks the Make It So trophy/achievement.
