Final Fantasy X HD Remaster

Caladbolg

By
Jarrod Garripoli

The Caladbolg is located in The Calm Lands, along a hidden path on the northern end of the plains. If you head there normally, then you will encounter a NPC who blocks the way and will not let you pass. To get him to move, then you will need to complete the entirety of the Chocobo Training exercises, up to and including Catcher Chocobo. You have to beat the trainer in the last one, but you don’t need to get under 0.00 seconds for the actual weapon. Once you’ve done all of that, the NPC will move out of the way, so head down and you should get a prompt that the Celestial Mirror is responding. Use it to get the weapon.

Note that if you leave the Calm Lands at all, the NPC will return to block your way. The only thing you have to do is start up any of the Chocobo Training exercises and finish it (no need to beat the time), which will cause the NPC to move. The Caladbolg’s abilities, once powered up completely, are as follows:

  • Break Damage Limit
  • Triple Overdrive
  • Evade & Counter
  • Magic Counter

Sun Crest

The Sun Crest can be found in Zanarkand, right after defeating Yunalesca in the main story. Once you’ve beaten her, there will be stairs going down in the back of the room. Take those stairs and you will end up back in the same room. Head back to the staircase in the back, but don’t use them this time, as instead, look for the chest near them to find the Sun Crest.

(1 of 2) Go down these stairs in the back to appear in the same room again

Go down these stairs in the back to appear in the same room again (left), but there will be a chest here with the Sun Crest (right)

It’s important to remember to grab this on your first run through the place, during the main story segment. If you don’t loot the Sun Crest then, upon returning to this room later on, after obtaining the use of the Fahrenheit, you will find Dark Bahamut in the same room. You will have to defeat him in order to get past him, which is some postgame/endgame stuff, including a lot of grinding to improve your stats to the near max values.

Sun Sigil

The Sun Sigil can be one of the more frustrating items to get in the game, since it is tied to one of the mini-games. Head to the Calm Lands and speak with the Chocobo-riding lady there. If you haven’t done it yet, you might have to do some training with the Chocobo, which aren’t very difficult at all. Eventually, though, you’ll get the option to race and that is where the Sun Sigil will come into play. The race involves you dodging birds, while collecting balloons. For every balloon you collect, your time will decrease by three seconds, while getting hit by a bird will increase your time by three seconds.

The goal of the race is to get your overall time under 0 seconds. That means you want to be in the negative and not exactly at 0 seconds, as that won’t count. Since the Chocobo will constantly move as you’re attempting to control it, this can be quite the frustrating mini-game and will probably take a lot of practice. There is also a lot of randomness involved, too, as the balloons are not in the same spot every single time, so you can’t plan ahead. Finishing in under 38 seconds, while hitting 13 balloons and no birds will get you the Sun Sigil.
