Strategy¶
The Bomb King is similar to the other Bomb-type fiends you fought in the game, with the one caveat being it doesn’t Self-Destruct. At the beginning of the battle, the Bomb King will just use physical attacks against a single character. After being struck three times, it will grow in size, then begin using Fira. The second time it grows (same as before), it will begin using Firaga on a character. You may think that’s the end, but the Bomb King can grow a third time and this is something you don’t want, as it will begin using Ultima.
The catch with the Bomb King is that counterattacks don’t make it grow, so that is one way to make the battle a lot simpler. Before doing anything, you can put Fire Eater on all three characters’ armors, then either Counterattack or Magic Counter on their weapons. Since you should be using Celestial Weapons, Tidus, Wakka, Kimahri and Auron have variations of counters on theirs. If it’s Magic Counter, make the boss grow once so it uses Fira. If it’s Counterattack or Evade & Counter, then leave the boss alone and let it use normal attacks.
