Resident Evil 4 Remake is jam-packed with content and unlockables, following on from the original Resident Evil 4. Most of the unlockables have been carried over here and of course, one of the more popular, are the various costumes you can unlock. This page will give you all the details you need on where to unlock every costume.
How to Unlock Costumes in RE4 Remake¶
Unless you’ve purchased the Deluxe Edition DLC, which came with some exclusive Costumes for you to use, you must first complete your first playthrough of Resident Evil 4 Remake. This will unlock all but the final costume, which you can find out more about in the table below:
Costume | Unlock Condition | CP |
---|---|---|
Jacket (Leon) | Complete the game on any difficulty | 500 |
Shirt (Leon) | Complete the game on any difficulty | 500 |
Pinstripe (Leon) | Complete the game on any difficulty | 2000 |
Casual (Leon) | DLC | – |
Romantic (Leon) | DLC | – |
Hero (Leon) | DLC | – |
Jacket (Ashley) | Complete the game on any difficulty | 500 |
Jacketless (Ashley) | Complete the game on any difficulty | 500 |
Armor (Ashley) | Complete Hardcore with an A Rank | 2000 |
Casual (Ashley) | DLC | – |
Romantic (Ashley) | DLC | – |
Hero (Ashley) | DLC | – |
All of these Costumes, save for the Armor Costume for Ashley (more on this below) are purely cosmetic. There is no way to unlock the DLC costumes in-game, you must head to your respective storefront to purchase and then use them.
Once you’ve unlocked a costume and purchased it from the Extra Contents Shop, head to the extras menu and you’ll find all of the Costumes available for Leon or Ashley. You must choose what costume you want from the main menu, but otherwise you’re free to change it at any point in your playthrough, you’re never locked in.
How to Unlock the Armor for Ashley¶
If your intention is to go for all of the Trophies/Achievements in Resident Evil 4 Remake, you’ll want to look into getting this Costume as soon as you can. The reason for this is what it does for Ashley, as it’s more than just a cosmetic Costume for her.
When wearing the Armor costume, Ashley becomes invulnerable to all forms of damage (useful in Chapter 14 for example) and it will be impossible for any enemy to pick her up and run off with her (such as during the Water Room Puzzle in the Castle). What makes this even more useful is that wearing the costume will not void any of the other Challenges (like the ones that prevent you from using Bonus Weapons).
It’s highly recommended to unlock this and wear it when doing any playthroughs on Professional mode, being able to forget about Ashley in high tension encounters is a literal lifesaver.
To unlock the Armor Costume for Ashley, you’ll need to complete the game on Hardcore with at least an A Rank. It’s unlikely you’ll do this on your first playthrough, so it’s easier to do a New Game Plus on Hardcore which should make life a lot easier, especially if you have the Primal Knife and Special Rocket Launcher at hand.
