The RE4 Remake demo brings you to the iconic village near the beginning of the game. Here you’ll encounter the chainsaw man who will hunt you down along with the rest of the villagers. You’ll need to survive long enough either by killing as many villagers as you possibly can, hiding, or continuously running away from them until the church bell rings to save you. On this page we’ll give you some tips on how to do this.
How to Kill the Chainsaw Man in the Resident Evil 4 Remake¶
The chainsaw man doesn’t appear immediately as you enter the main courtyard of the village, but as soon as you’re seen by a regular villager there will be a short period of time before the chainsaw man appears through the main gates. Alternatively, if you enter the building which contains the shotgun (near the center of the village), the chainsaw man will appear immediately and he’ll soon by sawing his way through the front door, so you’ll have a limited amount of time to get gather all the materials on the bottom floor, then get upstairs to acquire the shotgun and the hand grenade.
Where to Find the Shotgun and Hand Grenade in the Village¶
As mentioned above, you can find the shotgun and the hand grenade in a building near the center of the village. To find it, turn left from the area where you witnessed the burning of the officer with the binoculars, and keep going until you’re able to turn right. Head forward from here as you see a female villager with a pitchfork, who is directly behind the house that you need to enter. You can loot the barrel to your left before running by her and turning right again. Now turn right to reach the other side of the building where the entrance is.
The door to the building is already open, but once you run through a brief cutscene will play as you slam it shut and barricade it from the villagers. You’ll find some more barrels on the bottom floor containing Resources, Pesetas, and First Aid Spray. You can also push the bookcase opposite to cover the window before you go upstairs, thereby preventing another path for the villagers to get inside once they destroy the wooden planks covering it.
At the top of the stairs you’ll see the shotgun mounted on the wall, and the hand grenade in the cabinet just to its left. You should loot both of these as quickly as possible, being caring to avoid getting hit by the villagers behind you. Once you’ve got these items, you can try to kill the villagers who are up here with you, but you’ll need to push the ladder down at the end of the corridor to stop more from entering this way. This will only last so long though, since they’ll erect the ladder again after a brief period.
Make a Stand on the Roof and Use the Grenade¶
The better option here is to fend off the villagers until the chainsaw man is making his way upstairs, then go through the window to the left of the cabinet where you looted the hand grenade. This will bring you to the roof where you can make a stand, but you need to watch your back as more ladders will be erected from the courtyard to the roof. Keep an eye out for them and knock them down as soon as they appear.
This is a great time to throw the hand grenade through the window that you accessed the roof from, since you’ll hit numerous villagers and damage the chainsaw man in the process. You’ll need to hit the chainsaw man more before he dies, though, and the shotgun is ideal for this. Aim for the head to inflict as much damage as possible, then do the same with the pistol. If you run out of ammo before he dies, you can find more throughout the village, and usually as drops from regular villagers that you’ve killed.
You don’t need to kill the chainsaw man to survive this encounter, but you’ll earn 3,000 Pesetas if you manage to pull it off. Remember that you only have a limited amount of time to do it, so you can rely on continuing to run around if you want to kill him. Eventually the church bell will ring, at which point all the villagers will go inside the church and the encounter will be over. If you think you’re going to die and you want to finish the encounter without killing the chainsaw man, you’ll have better luck running around the village since the enemies won’t be able to keep up.
