Resident Evil 4 Remake launched on March 24th 2023 and is a fantastic remake of one of the most revered games ever created. As with the original Resident Evil 4, there are multiple challenges you can undertake and if you want to obtain every Trophy, you’ll need to complete most of them. This page will give you all the details you need to know about the Minimalist Trophy/Achievement.
Minimalist Requirements in Resident Evil 4 Remake¶
If you’re reading this page, you’ve most likely already finished your first playthrough of the fantastic Resident Evil 4 Remake. If you’re looking for more (or perhaps looking to unlock all of the Achievements/Trophies) then this will be one of the tougher ones to look at.
The requirements for the Minimalist Trophy/Achievement is a simple one, you must get through the entire game with only using the Knife and Handgun, although there are some exceptions to this rule, they are as follows:
-
You can use the Harpoons during Del Lago boss fight in Chapter 3
-
You can use the Cannons in the castle to kill enemies in Chapters 7 and 8
-
Enemies killed by the wrecking ball in Chapter 14 will not void the challenge
-
You can use the turrets in Chapter 15 to kill enemies
-
You can use the Special Rocket Launcher to finish the final battle in Chapter 16 (the one provided to you in this battle)
-
You are free to set off any explosive barrels throughout the game
Now on top of this, there are some obvious restrictions that you may possibly forget about, such us not throwing grenades or eggs as these will count as weapons (which means you’ll have to pass on the disgrace of the Salazar Family Request on this playthrough).
Minimalist Tips¶
You’ll need to be at your best if you’re to complete this Challenge and earn the Trophy/Achievement. There are ways you can make life easier for yourself, so keep these in mind when going for this:
-
Don’t try and grab this Trophy/Achievement on your first playthrough, instead look to grab it on a second playthrough alongside going for the Silent Stranger Trophy/Achievement (don’t speak to the Merchant).
-
With that in mind, on your first playthrough, make sure you fully upgrade your Handgun of choice (the Red9 is our pick), the Exclusive upgrade especially will help.
-
Make sure you find all of the Clockwork Castellans in your playthrough so that you unlock the Primal Knife.
-
Start a New Game Plus on Assisted Difficulty (the difficulty doesn’t matter for the Challenge, so go for the easiest) and purchase the Primal Knife from the Merchant (if not going for the Silent Stranger Trophy), this Knife will never lose durability!
-
Use your crafting materials for Handgun ammo only and purchase any First Aid Sprays from the Merchant (again, if not going for the Silent Stranger Trophy)
-
Make a save every Chapter to cover yourself for any mistakes. You can check your current counter by going into the Challenges screen (in-game) and selecting Main Story, then go to Minimalist. If this is on zero, you’re good, if not, load an old save as this must remain zero until you finish the game.
