Resident Evil 4 Remake launched on March 24th 2023 and is a fantastic remake of one of the most revered games ever created. As with the original Resident Evil 4, there are multiple challenges you can undertake and if you want to obtain every Trophy, you’ll need to complete most of them. This page will give you all the details you need to know about the Frugalist Trophy/Achievement.
Frugalist Requirements in Resident Evil 4 Remake¶
If you’re reading this page, you’ve most likely already finished your first playthrough of the fantastic Resident Evil 4 Remake. If you’re looking for more (or perhaps looking to unlock all of the Achievements/Trophies) then this will be one of the tougher ones to look at.
The requirements for the Frugalist Trophy/Achievement is a simple one, you must get through the entire game without using a single recovery item. There is no catch here, any item that may possibly restore your health will instantly void this Trophy/Achievement, here are the list of recovery items you cannot use:
-
Herbs of any kind, be it Green, Red, or Yellow
-
First Aid Sprays
-
Eggs, be it normal, brown, or Golden Eggs
-
Vipers
-
Fish
You can, however, make use of anything that will increase your defense, such as the Body Armor or the Chicken Hat.
Frugalist Tips¶
You’ll need to be at your best if you’re to complete this Challenge and earn the Trophy/Achievement. There are ways you can make life easier for yourself, so keep these in mind when going for this:
-
Don’t try and grab this Trophy/Achievement on your first playthrough, instead look to grab it on a second playthrough.
-
With that in mind, on your first playthrough, make sure you fully upgrade your health using the many Yellow Herbs scattered around the game. You’ll also want to purchase the Body Armor and have it fully repaired.
-
If you’ve been working on other Challenges first, look to complete Hardcore with an S+ Rank to obtain the Chicken Hat. This Accessory will massively reduce the damage you take and combined with the Body Armor, will make a huge difference.
-
Once it comes to the playthrough itself, go for a New Game Plus on Assisted Difficulty (the difficulty doesn’t matter for the Challenge, so go for the easiest). This, combined with the Body Armor (and possibly the Chicken Hat) will see that you don’t need to heal as much.
-
Always look to keep your distance, a fully upgraded Stingray will make a world of difference as you can sit back and take the enemies out from range.
-
On the topic of upgrades, the fact that you’re not using recovery items means you can sell them all to the merchant for money. If you have the Rhinoceros Beetle Charm (from the Shooting Range), you can double the money you’ll get from them!
-
Make saves at the start of every Chapter, that way you can just reload a Chapter should you take too much damage on a particular encounter.
-
Stock up on Flash Grenades and other like-minded explosives, these are handy for those moments where you’re up against large groups of enemies.
-
Bosses may take practice, this is where the majority of the damage you take comes from. This is another good area to have a save just before, if you take heavy damage, reload and try again.
-
Stick to the main path, ignore Requests and other detours as they only lead to more opportunities to take damage.
